  1. 'More to come from Mbappe'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Kylian Mbappe is the quickest player in the tournament but I think there is lots more to come from him. Some games have passed him by a little bit, and in the last few, he has started to dive about a bit. In this tournament we have seen flashes of brilliance but he is a young player and he is still learning. I think he will be a great like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

  2. 'It will not be an easy ride for France'published at 15:16 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Everything points to a France win but Croatia have done a job on everyone so far. They can do the dirty stuff and have two players on their own who can turn the game in Modric and Rakitic. It will not be an easy ride for France.

  3. 'Croatia the kings of chaos'published at 15:12 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Adrian Chiles
    BBC Radio 5 live presenter

I was asked the other day if Croatia had an inferiority or superiority complex. The answer is both.

They'll tell you all day long they're the greatest people, from the greatest country ever, with the best athletes anywhere, the bluest sea, the best olive oil, cheese, ham, wine etc etc etc.

And just as you're getting a bit bored of hearing that, they'll go into a diatribe about how the country is corrupt, going to pot, doomed to failure and chaos, how everyone wants to leave but can't and blah blah blah.

Can they do it? I think they can. They're a special team with a couple of really special players who are on an absolute roll.

France are arguably stronger on paper, but their opponents will - typically for Croatia - embrace the status of underdog while at the same time feeling quite sure they'll win.

The French are favourites, but football is chaos. And when it comes to chaos, the Croatians are in their element.

  4. 'Mbappe sees full picture'published at 15:12 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Trevor Brooking
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Mbappe is young and has the talent that can win matches on his own.

France started slowly but he had two or three flashes in the early games when you thought 'goodness me'.

What I like is he does get his head up and if someone is in a good position he will switch play. For someone so young to see a full picture is great.

Gary Lineker tells us that Croatian midfielder Ivan Rakitic has said he will get a tattoo of the World Cup on HIS FOREHEAD if they win today.

    One to regret?????

Being in a World Cup final is the moment you have been dreaming of all your life. It is a very special moment and after your career has finished you realise just what you have achieved.

Croatia totally deserve to be in the final, they have played outstanding football, beating some big names and they are so hungry.

France have also played an excellent tournament and have to prove they are ready for this stage. Quality wise they have players that can make the difference. It is going to be a huge clash.

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer in Moscow

Both teams are out warming up and the atmosphere is really building inside the Luzhniki Stadium. Croatia may be the underdogs but their supporters are in gloriously buoyant mood - and you suspect buoyant does not even go anywhere near describing the mood back in their country.

  8. 'Croatia are open'published at 15:09 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Chris Waddle
Ex-England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Both managers have gone for the trusted teams that have got them this far.

Croatia will be a little more open. France will try and do a job on Croatia, nick a goal and then afterwards they will be very hard for Croatia to break down.

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Luzhniki Stadium

It’s nice to find some actual French people, and they were quite happy to explain why they think France will win today and become world champions.

“It’s down to Kylian Mbappe,” explains Isabelle, from Paris. “He is only young but that is why he so good. He is a teenager and he does not get as tired as the other ones – he keeps running.”

Hmmm... I'm not sure every teenager lives up to that description, but once Mbappe has got going at this World Cup, he has certainly been hard to stop.

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

The 'team' is exactly what has come out of this World Cup. The big players dropped out early and all the teams who were together, understood what their manager wanted and believed in it, have done well. They have done it at big stages in big times in their careers and that is why they are here.

  12. Modric v Mbappepublished at 15:07 British Summer Time 15 July 2018

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on BBC Radio 5 live

This World Cup has given us everything and it has delivered from start to finish. It would be brilliant to have a fitting end here in Moscow with the two best teams, and the two best players against each other in Luka Modric v Kylian Mbappe.

On one hand (or cheek), Alex appears to want France to win. On the other, he is a Croatia fan.

“All I want is a good game for both teams,” he explains (sort of). “I want both teams to win but I think France will do it… after extra-time and penalties.”

Who is wearing which shirt, who supports who, and why, can get a bit confusing at times. Marko (right) is from Croatia, but lives in Germany.

His friend Florin is from Germany too, but is wearing a France shirt because he has lots of French friends. But he actually wants Croatia to win.

“I would like to see Marko happy so I don’t mind Croatia winning,” he explained. “Germany went home very early – it was very embarrassing.”

Plenty of Russia shirts being proudly worn today, too. The hosts may not be here, but that does not mean they are not excited about the World Cup final, and pleased with the way the tournament has gone.

“I have looked forward to this World Cup for seven-and-a-half years since we found out it would be held here,” says Alex (right).

“I am very upset about it finishing, but it has been a brilliant tournament. Russia did much better than we thought they would too.”
