Scott: I love that Lovren has an ego that big, 'I took Liverpool to the Champions League final' let's hope he performs well today or he might regret those comments for a long time!

Oyelade: There may be a party in Paris, but there's still a job to be done in Moscow.

My overriding feelings of this France squad is that they could be so much better than they have shown thus far. Admittedly they have got to the final but...

Is Dider Deschamps putting the handbrake on too much?

    Let them go man!

It's going to be a fascinating game and I don't think France will have it easy. They beat Belgium in the semi-final but they didn't have lots of the ball. You feel they are doing enough to get through each round, and perhaps it will be enough today.

    France v Croatia (16:00 BST)

Luka Modric, captain and midfield general, is the undoubted star of Croatia's national team.

He has been the official Man of the Match in three of Croatia's six World Cup fixtures.

Even missing a penalty in extra time against Denmark left him unfazed. He calmly slotted home a spot-kick in the subsequent, triumphant shootout.

But plenty of football fans in Croatia have been groaning at the Real Madrid star's feats - or even booing him as a pantomime villain.

    Schmeichel saves Modric penalty

    Why?

He is at the heart of a corruption scandal which continues to divide Croatia's football fans - even as their national side has reached heights previously unscaled in its short World Cup history.

Modric's 'magnificent' stunner doubles Croatia's lead

France forward Kylian Mbappe has been absolutely brilliant in a couple of games but Croatia midfielder Luka Modric has been my player of the tournament because he has delivered in every match he has played.

Modric wants the ball in every situation, always tries to pass it forward, and hardly ever gives it away.

He will win the ball back for you too, and has also come up with a couple of goals. His consistency is exceptional and he is an absolute class act. I don't see a better midfielder in world football.

I have seen Croatia three times during this World Cup and their strength is definitely in the middle of the pitch. That is where they will look to take control of this match.

But we have seen France are efficient, and able to stop teams from playing through them, but they are also very dangerous going forward.

They have been the best team here in Russia, and that's why I am backing them to be world champions.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

England striker Harry Kane is in a commanding position to finish the 2018 World Cup as top scorer, with only the final left to be played.

Kane, 24, ended the tournament with six goals after failing to score as the Three Lions lost 2-0 to Belgium in Saturday's third-place play-off.

France strikers Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe have both scored three times so far in Russia.

Croatia, their opponents in the final, have three players on two goals.

But according to Lovren, he is 'one of the best defenders in the world.'

The Croatia defender also said Luka Modric deserves to win the Ballon d'Or if they win the final, and describes his team-mate as the "best midfield player in the world".

"I think people should recognise that I am also one of the best defenders in the world and not just talk nonsense," he told Bein Sports., external

"People say I had a difficult season but I don't agree with that. I took Liverpool to the final of the Champions League and now with my national team we are in the World Cup final."

Croatian tennis star Marin Cilic summed-up the mood back home on BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek programme earlier.

He said: "It was completely crazy on Wednesday (against England), the whole country was so excited, the celebrations were going until the early hours of the morning.

"Every single square in Croatia was jam packed and it was incredible to see and an amazing atmosphere even for all the tourists here.

"Today is going to be even crazier. They are preparing a reception for the team coming home tomorrow in Zagreb which they hope will have more than 100,000 people at."
