It's time for us to say goodbye to the 2017-18 Championship season.

Fulham are heading back to the Premier League after beating Aston Villa, who are set for a third consecutive campaign outside the top flight.

Thanks for joining me this evening, for the most lucrative game in world football. I suspect it's been a day that Fulham fans will never forget.

Now then... Apparently there's a big game happening in Kiev tonight! You can join my colleague Emlyn Begley for Real Madrid against Liverpool by clicking here. Enjoy it. I'll see you soon.

  2. 'There's no better way' to go uppublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

Fulham's Kevin McDonald tells Sky Sports:

"You wait your whole life for moments like these. The whole season the fans have been fantastic. How else can we repay them than like this?

"There's no better way to do it than at Wembley in front of all your friends, family and fans."

Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen tells BBC Radio London:

“I think we have been one of the better teams in the Championship all the way through the season and we deserved this.

"We have played more as a team this year and fought for each other – if someone makes a mistake, the next man sticks up for him. It’s great to be a part of this team.

“I haven’t seen too many of the play-off finals, but I’ve always heard it’s always exciting and strange things happen. One of the big things we have done this season is keep grinding out results – if teams put us under pressure, we can respond.”

  4. 'Getting sent off sucked'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

Fulham's Denis Odoi, who was sent off with 20 minutes to go, tells BBC Radio London:

“If it goes wrong, everyone is looking at you. It’s so unfortunate and I’m just so relieved.

"I can be happy with my performance – I was very happy with my performance in the first half, but getting sent off sucked.

“The owner’s trying to buy Wembley so it felt like home. I’m so happy and I’m looking forward to next season – what else can I say?”

  5. Can Villa keep Terry?published at 19:49 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

On veteran centre-back John Terry's future, Villa boss Steve Bruce adds:

"That's a big decision obviously. We'll see what we've got.

"It'll be John's decision, I would have thought.

"We've got three or four people out of contract, like any club. We'll see over the next few weeks and we'll get ourselves sorted."

By the way, that's four of the past six Championship play-off finals which have ended 1-0.

Tom Cairney's 23rd-minute goal was enough for Slavisa Jokanovic's men today.

  7. Fulham's best players 'have to stay' nowpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

Ex-Fulham defender on BBC Radio London

I think what you have with this Fulham team is great character. They could have gone up at Birmingham but they didn’t. So they’ve regrouped. Look at this – this is the best way to go up. You can’t buy this.

Today will have given a whole generation of Fulham fans some great, great memories.

I think the likes of Ryan Sessegnon have got to stay now, and I think if Fulham want to move forward, they’ll have to keep some of these players

  8. 'It's tough to swallow'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

    Steve Bruce adds:

"I was totally disappointed with the first half. We all are. With a big game, it's tough to swallow.

"But we're Aston Villa. We'll dust ourselves down next year and try to go one better."

  9. Reaction from Steve Brucepublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

Villa boss Steve Bruce tells Sky Sports:

"We were disappointed with the first half. We didn't do enough to ask them real questions. We did in the second half.

"For me, Ryan Fredericks should have been sent off. He stamped on Jack Grealish, right in front of me.

"In the second half, we were much better. We just needed a break, but we didn't get one."

Fulham's Newcastle loanee Aleksandar Mitrovic adds to Sky Sports:

On his future, the Serbia striker adds:

"I've had an amazing three or four months. I want to enjoy the moment, prepare for the World Cup and then we'll see what happens. I want to say thank you to the club and the fans."

Marcus Bettinelli is loving this. These celebrations may come back to embarrass these Fulham players if some of their children ever get hold of this footage. It’s real dad dancing – they’re really going for it now, and the ‘White Wall’ of Fulham supporters is marching along as the Fulham players dance themselves into a frenzy.

“Villa’s defence is terrified!” they’re singing, to the tune of Will Grigg’s on fire.

But you can understand why they’re celebrating like this. The pressure of such a long Championship season is immense – then it looked like they might have fallen right at the final hurdle with what happened against Birmingham and [initially] Derby. Then they came back like this – and this is a new kind of pressure release.

  13. Jokanovic reacts to promotionpublished at 19:32 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic tells Sky Sports:

"I am so excited for my club, for these supporters. We showed we could follow the style that we followed for the past two years, in this stadium

"I'd have preferred to do the job earlier but, to be promoted at this place in front of these fans, I have to be satisfied.

"I'm happy with what my team offered today and how we played our football."

"Undoubtedly one of the best days of a Fulham fan's life.

"Undoing the hurt of the 1975 FA Cup Final, getting the team back where we belong.

"Aston Villa were a wonderful opponent and credit to Steve Bruce and their fans, who were great throughout.

"I am so proud of this team - 23 unbeaten, returning to the Premier League on the biggest stage. I love you, Fulham!"

Throughout the afternoon we're following Fulham fan Ben and Aston Villa supporter Phil, who are at Wembley cheering on their respective teams.

Fulham are very similar to how you'd expect a Premier League side to play - lots and lots of possession.

Sometimes, you look at them and think they'll have to go forward here. Then: bang, bang, bang - they've opened the game up.

They didn't do that as much as you'd have liked them to today but they certainly did it more than Villa. They produced the one moment of quality that won the game.

  17. 'We've been the best team in the league'published at 19:20 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    FT: Aston Villa 0-1 Fulham

Fulham skipper Tom Cairney adds to Sky Sports:

"We knew we wouldn't shrink in this environment. The pitch suits us, with the way we play football.

"In my eyes, over the past two seasons, we've been the best team in this league.

"I signed a contract extension for a reason. I believe what we're doing here is something special."

  18. Fulham 'stuck together'published at 19:18 British Summer Time 26 May 2018

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Villa took a half to get going. I don't quite know what the game plan was - for 45 minutes, they were tepid in the extreme. Then they pushed the widemen on and created more opportunities, but even in those periods, Fulham were still the better team.

Fulham stuck together in what was a bitty game. They did enough to see it out in a game littered with mistakes.

Sho: Really glad it was Fulham that went up. They play with swagger and flair and also it's hard to want a team to win that contains Terry and Hutton.

Matt Price: Fulham deserve this, 100%. If they can keep a hold of players like Sessegnon and Mitrovic, I predict them to stay up. With the names, tactics and managers the 20 top-flight teams now have, we're in for a belter of a season come August!

Jon Evans: Bruce should go after that. He has failed this season, poor football which can only be negated by success which he hasn't achieved. He has developed a team of bottlers. Every opportunity this season they have bottled.
