Jack Grealish is booked for a late lunge from behind on Tom Cairney. It's not pretty. Is he lucky to stay on there?

Villa's fans are screaming for a penalty as a bouncing Jack Grealish shot appears to strike Fulham's Denis Odoi on the arm, but nothing's given.

Replays show it clearly wasn't deliberate.

It's all Villa now.

Jack Grealish takes them all on by himself and wriggles in to the penalty area, but Marcus Bettinelli gets down low to make a decent save.

What a cracking run by Grealish. I could almost hear Motty saying 'it's still Ricky Villa!' in my head...

Villa have come out a completely different side - and both Steve Bruce and Slavisa Jokanovic are screaming relentlessly.

Can their players even hear them in this atmosphere? It's just a cauldron of noise - but they're shouting anyway.

Lewis Grabban finds some room to shoot from the left side of the Fulham penalty area, after a good ball from Jack Grealish, but Grabban's effort is well blocked by Denis Odoi.

At the other end, Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic beats John Terry in the air but his downward header drops wide of the far post.

Aston Villa’s start to the second half has certainly roused their fans. The Claret and Blues look a totally different proposition and have much more of an attacking threat.

I'd say this is Villa's best spell of the match so far. Their fans are certainly sounding lively again. They believe they can turn this around.

Now Conor Hourihane goes close for Villa, but his curling shot from the left is always curling away from goal, across the six-yard box.

Villa's Albert Adomah whips in a much more dangerous ball from the left this time, and Jack Grealish almost heads it in, jumping bravely up against Fulham keeper Marcus Bettinelli, but it just goes over the bar.

This is a bit better from Villa.

Aston Villa have struggled to get into any sort of flow in this game. Steve Bruce is cutting a frustrated figure and one of their most creative players in Jack Grealish has been tackled left, right and centre, struggling to get into any sort of rhythm.

They've not been able to get any of their wide players like Albert Adomah into play.

It's not been the most exciting game, but you often get that when there is so much at stake.

Albert Adomah does well down the left for Villa and swings in a fairly deep cross, but it's headed over the bar fairly tamely by Robert Snodgrass.

Former Fulham defender Rufus Brevett told BBC Sport:

I think Fulham have been absolutely magnificent and have completely controlled possession and the game. The weight of pass for the goal from Ryan Sessegnon was just sublime and it was a fantastic finish by Tom Cairney.

But it is only 45 minutes and I don’t think Villa can be that bad in the second half.

Steve Bruce is going to have to make changes as Villa have hardly laid a glove on Fulham. I think they have got another gear to go into, Fulham, if they need to.

Fulham play some more neat stuff and Aleksandar Mitrovic gets in behind down the right, but James Chester slides in to clear his low cross in the middle.

There are no changes for either side at half-time.

Helles Mammut: Villa look like a very average team. No spark, no composure, nothing that would make you think they should play in the Premier League. Fulham aren't world class either but you can see they have these bursts where they put opponents under pressure, a bit like Liverpool

Play-off expert Richard Foster is the author of The Agony & the Ecstasy: A Comprehensive History of the Football League Play-Offs, and he's been speaking to BBC Radio London:

"This is the first time either of these teams have been in a play-off final. The last time this happened was 2002: Birmingham v Norwich.

"Finishing third isn't always a nightmare - 35% of clubs have gone up from that third position.

"1996 was the last time a London Championship team lost to a team outside of London. The omens, then, are quite good for Fulham.

"They haven't got a lot of experience in play-off finals though, whereas Villa have - and they have a manager in Steve Bruce who, if he gets Villa up today, will be the first manager to have got 3 different teams up to the Premier League via the play-offs."
