Will, London: Meeting the girlfriend's extended family in Chichester for the first time on Sat. Safe to say the only words they'll be hearing from my mouth are "it's coming home!"

Chris Allen: I'll be in Hyde Park on Saturday watching The Cure... I wouldn't fancy being any of the afternoon support bands who will probably get ignored!

David Cornish, London: Got high tea in London for my Mum and Dad's 30th wedding anniversary at 4pm. Managed to push it back to 4.30. Really need England to have the game done and dusted by 70 minutes.

Wishful thinking that, David. This is England remember...they only do things the hard way!

Warren Aldhouse: Just tried to get the office to sing “It’s coming home, it’s coming home” but no takers.

Mike Casey: The wife couldn't understand why I came in at 3.45am started singing it's coming home and fell over and demolished the side board!

Andy, London: Best hangover ever! Feeing dreadful but can't stop smiling. What a night.

And this is after the last 16. What if England make it to the semi-finals?!

Ian Barrass-Sykes: I had already booked a day trip to Malmo from Copenhagen. On Saturday. Should be interesting.

Andy (was east Yorks, now east Mids): Been offering to take my wife to the Yorkshire dales for 20-plus years. Booked it months ago for this weekend. Up at 5 on Saturday now and back to the Buck Inn, Malham by 3!

Jawad, Cardiff: I want to big up Tif Qureshi and the team at IAS dental academy for moving our course start time from 9am to 7am on Saturday in Newcastle, so we can watch the footie! It's coming home!

  6. Will Southgate make changes?published at 11:29 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

England v Sweden (15:00 BST, Saturday 7 July)

    BBC Radio 5 live

So Jamie Vardy appears to be doubtful and Dele Alli's fitness could mean at least one change to the starting line-up by Gareth Southgate.

Former England defender Terry Butcher told BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast: "He will have to look at injuries as some of the tackles by Colombia were a disgrace. But I wouldn't rush to make many changes. I'd probably stay the same and I think Sweden will stay the same.

"They don't hold any worries for me. It will be fairer game on Saturday. They'll make it difficult. Everyone will dream of being in that team, a World Cup quarter-final."

Stewart: My friend's wedding is at 5pm on Saturday. If it goes to extra time he can let us know how the wedding went afterwards.

Si Rea, London: At a wedding in the South of France, ceremony is at 3pm UK time. Will be wearing my England shirt under my suit. Is it acceptable to celebrate a goal while they're saying their vows?

Steve, Birmingham: I've got a wedding to attend on Alderney at 2:30 on Saturday where my wife and 18-month-old are bridesmaids! No idea if I my phone package covers Alderney and the wedding couple aren't interested in football! 18-month-old might need a nap around the start of the 2nd half!

Seriously, who arranges a wedding for the same time as the World Cup knockout stage? To be fair, they probably weren't expecting England to still be in it!

  8. Man down!published at 11:22 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

England v Sweden (15:00 BST, Saturday 7 July)

Despite coming on late in normal time, Jamie Vardy did not take one of the England penalties and it seems he is now an injury doubt.

  9. 'Sweden will not be easy'published at 11:17 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    BBC Radio 5 live

Eriksson, 70, will be supporting his native Sweden on Saturday and had a warning for Gareth Southgate's men.

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "People in England will be happy they got Sweden but it will not be easy. Sweden will be very difficult to score against. I think it will be a draw after 90 minutes and then you never know.

"Many teams in the past have thought it is easy to meet Sweden but it is not."

  10. 'I wish I took a mental coach'published at 11:11 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    BBC Radio 5 live

Sven-Goran Eriksson was England manager for those shootout defeats to Portugal in 2004 and 2006.

He told BBC Radio 5 live: "I am happy England went through on penalties because their history is not good.

"I wish I had taken a mental coach for the shootouts, but for different reasons, I did not do it. Maybe we would have been more successful."

A look at the table above shows how England broke with tradition last night by winning the shootout.

So perhaps it is bang on that manager Gareth Southgate says his side will not be "bowed by the pressure of the past".

"We're trying to write our own history, and I've talked to the players about that," he added.

Col, Liverpool: Was at a concert in Manchester last night (tickets bought well before football draw). Right in the middle of a song, the loudest cheer of the night went up when Dier scored. The band assumed we just loved that song!

Was it Eels by any chance, Col? I was there too. E, the lead singer, also said 'Wow. A standing ovation. We should play that song more often!' He took it all in good jest.

In fact, in their last 10 meetings, England have won two while Sweden have won three.

Two of the five draws came in a World Cup - in 2002 and 2006 - which suggests it could be another tight affair.

Another penalty shootout then?? Will your nerves be able to take it?

  15. 'Sweden have given us problems'published at 10:48 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    Martin Keown
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Everything is gong nicely now but Sweden have given us problems in the past. Their 4-4-2 system will be difficult for us but we shouldn't fear anyone.

  16. Postpublished at 10:47 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

Now then, let's have a look at Saturday's game in more detail. England face Sweden for a place in the semi-finals and, as Martin Keown points out, the Three Lions have not exactly had a great record against the Swedes...

Stuart Richardson: My wife said the bungalow was shaking when England scored the last penalty!

Anon: Feeling very guilty this morning. When the winning penalty went in I accidentally glassed my mate who is currently sat in a London hospital waiting for plastic surgery!

Blimey, hardhats all round for the quarter-final then!

Mike: I'm working Saturday 8-6pm. And worse! I can't even see the TV from my desk! So I'm hoping for a tactical fire alarm or, if needs be, an outbreak of Swedish flu.

Toby: Partner and I are going to Rome, hoping to find other English fans in a bar as I doubt the locals will be too interested!

Steve H, Taunton: Months ago wife booked a sea cruise along Jurassic Coast as a birthday gift.. Starts at 2.30 for 2 hours Saturday afternoon!

Michael Scarn: The Spanish bar I was in last night put 'Three Lions' on the karaoke machine on a loop. Absolute scenes.

So it's past 10am, you're probably still reveling in the fuzzy feeling (if you're English at least).

If you want to add a chuckle to that inner glow, maybe have a read of this piece we compiled about how the nation reacted on social media. There's some Love Island references in there, some pride, some tears, you name it.
