    BBC Radio 5 live

Some of you who have listened to the BBC Radio 5 live World Cup content have enjoyed the contributions from Robbie Savage's mother. This morning's chat goes something like this:

    "Good morning poppet.

"When it came to extra time I was bad, when it went to penalties I went proper sickly, when they missed the first penalty I went in the back yard.

"Uruguay versus France. This is a toughie this is. From day one, I've said Uruguay so I will stick with them and say 3-2.

"Brazil versus Belgium. This is another toughie Robert. I'll go Brazil and 3-2."

  12. Liverpool friendly goes ahead as plannedpublished at 09:38 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Liverpool’s opening pre-season game at Chester on Saturday will go ahead with a kick-off of 15:00 BST.

The encounter is a 4,500-capacity sell-out at the Deva Stadium, with Liverpool letting the home side keep all the proceeds.

Chester did suggest changing the timing of the fixture once it became apparent a clash with England’s World Cup quarter-final was on the cards.

However, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp wants to keep to the initial schedule and is expected to give debuts to new signings Naby Keita and Fabinho.

Goalkeeper Loris Karius, who was diagnosed as suffering from concussion when he made two mistakes in the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, is also due to play.

Kyle Green: Still expecting to check again and find out we lost and it was all a dream, so strange seeing the words ‘England win World Cup penalty shootout’ on the news.

Steven Jerjian: Concerned that the struggle to keep clean sheets or score from open play is going to prove costly in the end, but the nation is falling in love with the determination and togetherness in this England squad, so anything is possible now. Bring on Saturday!

Neil: Some random guy streaked down my street last night wearing just an England top hat. Says it all really.

    Sue Smith
Former England forward on BBC Breakfast

There was a real calmness about them in penalty shootout, this is a new generation of players.

Harry Kane was leading by example, it was a a real captain's performance.

Jordan Pickford has had some unfair criticism in the tournament, but he certainly stood up in this game and what a strong left hand.

Praise has to go to Gareth Southgate, he looks at every intrinsic detail.

Joe Miles: Just going to bed after the 547th time of watching England win on penalties.

Adam Barnes: The best thing about last night is that whatever happens now this team will come home without getting a hammering from the press. Southgate deserves a huge amount of credit for building a team without egos all playing for each other and the nation. Proud.

Former England defender Martin Keown wasn't too impressed with Colombia's tactics though.

He said on BBC Radio 5 live: "It was almost mob rule around the referee. They contested every decision. Even the coach at half-time ploughed into Raheem Sterling.

"The thing that pleased me most is they tried to tango but the boys didn't rise to it or go above the line. We played our football, weren't drawn in and came through in the end.

"I think there was a mindset of 'this is our moment'. It was almost a case that they thought the English lads would react. I think we were more streetwise last night."
