Daniel Taylor: Left work early to get a nap in so I can get up in time to watch the match (kick-off 3am Japan time) but now I’m too nervous to sleep!

Jamie Moran: On holiday in Canada with the family. Booked in for lunch at 2pm local time at the top of the CN Tower in Toronto - hoping they have a screen up there - if we don’t get a result it’s likely I’ll be in for a massive come-down!

Emily: I'm in beautiful Quebec City with a group of girls and we've already staked out our bar for the match. Come on England!

Sam Wallace: The tension is brimming. Across the country, eyes flit to clocks. Bodies shift eagerly in their seats. Hearts racing, palms sweating. It's coming home.

Andy, Oxford: I'm not nervous at all because I'm not expecting anything from tonight as we're the underdogs. We've exceeded expectations already so this is a free hit for us. Croatia are far better than us so we should adopt the mindset of a lower league club in the FA Cup 3rd round and just give it our best shot.

Luke: I honestly can't remember such a mix of nerves and excitement. Thankfully I have taken half a day off. A run and watching some Wimbledon QFs will calm the nerves before heading into Oxford a couple of hours before kick-off.

Eiran Barkhordarian: Was supposed to be on a flight from Sydney to Heathrow and I was going to miss the match... Buuut they messed up my ticket and I'm still in Aus. So I'll be up at 4am to watch the Three Lions.

Christophe Talbotski: Watched Italia 90 as a wide eyed 11-year-old. My Dad was at work, Mum sent me to bed at half-time, Dad made her get me back up! Watching tonight at home... with my wide eyed 11-year-old son and my Dad. Never been more nervous.

Adam Selwyn: Will be cheering the 3 lions on with the other Brits who live abroad in New Jersey...couldn’t be prouder!! 2-1 to the lads!

    Arthur Gaskell...anyone remember him?

Well, Croatia’s Vecernji List, external newspaper carries an article on the former Bolton player, who became manager of Dinamo Zagreb in 1921.

The Englishman led the club, then called Gradjanski, for several years, and won the league in Yugoslavia in 1923.

"If Arthur Gaskell was alive, the celebrated football 'creator' would today take his seat at Luzhniki Stadium, not just as an English and Croatian great but a Russian too,” the paper says, referring to the fact that Gaskell is believed to have been involved in Russian football before his move to Yugoslavia – although details on this period of his career are sketchy.

The article ends by saying: “We should be very grateful for English football. At the end of the 19th century, they made the first football in Zupanja [Croatia town] and allowed Croats to start playing football. Today they will figure out what a fatal mistake they made.”

Spooner, Sheffield: In hospital having a kidney stone removed, I don't care what they do to my private parts as long as they're done by 6pm!

Nic, Chester: It's my sons birthday today and we are having family round this evening for a tea party. The big yard brush may just come out at 6:30. Top it off, we have booked a theme park trip for Sunday as part of the celebrations. Can't change fate now!

Andy, Cheshire: Surely I can't be expected to do any work today? I only have three words for you and I think you know what they are...

Now then Andy, what could they possibly be???

    BBC Radio 5 live

The Croatian ambassador to the UK has agreed to wear England socks all day tomorrow, and a Gareth Southgate-style waistcoat, if England win tonight.

Igor Pokaz told BBC Radio 5 live Breakfast: “I can only say good luck – we’ll see. We always play our best against the great teams, so you have to be aware that tonight we will produce our best game so far at the World Cup.”

He said in the streets of Zagreb "they’re not singing 'it’s coming home' - it’s more like 'you are going home'."

To keep things even, his opposite number, British ambassador to Croatia, Andrew Dalgleish, agreed to wear Croatian socks should England lose, and a red and white check Croatian waistcoat.

Dalgleish said he’s got one concern about the Croatian team: “They are so passionate and that’s what our team will have to deal with tonight.”

Not sure Mr Pokaz will be calling Kyle Walker to borrow his socks...

Steve Pitchers: Too excited to go to bed, 5 hours sleep counting down to watch the big game in Brisbane.

Miles Davies: On a flight with two colleagues from Chennai to Dubai. Fortunately being streamed by Emirates.

Gary Pitts: Watching the game in Swansea wondering how the locals will take it when I turn up in my England shirt and I am pretty sure to be the only one wanting us to win.

Still...could be worse. My girlfriend is French so I'm likely to have the same hostility at home on Sunday!

Richard Southworth: Feeling pretty serene right now. England can win this match, and if we don't, we've done great to get this far. Still, I expect I'll have serious butterflies when it actually kicks off.

Chris Watkins: In terms of nerve levels ranging from "already thinking about how to deal with Mbappe" to "what if Kane falls mysteriously ill like Ronaldo in '98 and we crash out" I am a solid "listen to Three Lions again, that'll help".

Glen Hartley: Dad’s proud that I can witness a World Cup semi-final, I was born a year late in 1991 for Italia 90. Hoping we can win so Dad can say we’ve won 2 world cups in his lifetime! Current feels - Like Gene Hunt would say ‘Shaking like a Nun at a small penguin shoot!'

Only one team can win a league. Thirty-two teams went to the World Cup; 31 will go home wondering what if.

The idea England might be the exception both to that rule and to a torturous history of defeat, pain and regrets still feels extraordinary.
