Chris Adams: Promise I’ve not Googled it. 4 players who’ve scored in 4 World Cups. I’ll go with Maradonna, Cristiano Ronaldo, Klinsmann & Eusebio.

Ronaldo is right. The other three are wrong...

Paul: Easy to think what might have been for Perú at this World Cup, better to focus on what might be in the future if this team continues to grow! Arriba Perú!

    Mark Milligan

Lovely skill from Paolo Guerrero to knock the ball through the legs of Mark Milligan and the Aussie centre-back hauls him down. Another booking for the men in yellow.

Peru are going home but they're going in style.

    Got to be surely?!

It's three on one in favour of Peru...

    No!

A tired Paolo Guerrero misplaces the pass. That could have been the icing on the cake for Peru.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Way too high from Mile Jedinak. He looks to the skies in frustration.

It's just not going to be Australia's day.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

A massive "oooooof" from the crowd in unison as Peru rattle the woodwork but it wouldn't have counted. The offside flag was up.

Australia now have a free-kick 30 yards from goal, just left of centre. Classic David Beckham territory.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Australia have 10 minutes to score three goals to save their World Cup campaign.

It still probably won't be enough as Denmark are still level with France.

    What have Australia got left?

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Peru are getting a little slack and their manager doesn't look too happy about it. You can hardly blame them with the party atmosphere coming down from the stands.

The man who opened the scoring for Peru, Andre Carrillo is replaced by Wilder Cartagena. Carrillo gets a huge reception from the crowd. They're all on their feet.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

What was that? Under absolutely no pressure Josh Risdon smashes the ball out for a Peru corner from his own right-back position.

Moments later Peru's goalkeeper Pedro Gallese is down after a collision with Tim Cahill.

Cahill is attempting to become just the fifth player to score at four different World Cups. You have 15 minutes to guess the others. No Googling.

  10. CLOSE!published at 73 mins

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Big, big chance. The Peru defence falls asleep and Aziz Behich is picked out at the back post. Tim Cahill is free by the penalty spot and Behich just needs to square the ball to the striker but he makes a mess of it and the ball goes out of play.

Cahill is not impressed. Australia won't get too many more chances.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Oooof. I thought that was in!

Tim Cahill uses his remarkable leap for the first time to knock down a cross from the right. The ball falls to a Peru defender rather than an Australian team-mate but it still almost ends up being deflected into the net.

It wasn't actually as close as it first looked but it worried the Peru fans for about half a second. They're back chanting and banging their drums again.

Paul: This World Cup will be worthless to me if I don't see an ageing Tim Cahill punch the corner flag in celebration at having scored in four World Cups.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

As I said earlier, Peru's goal scorer Paolo Guerrero was only allowed to take part in this World Cup after his drugs ban was overturned. That only happened after an appeal was sent to Fifa, signed by Australia captain Mile Jedinak plus the French and Denmark captains.

He's now scored the goal that will likely seal Australia's fate.

The frustration is building in the Aussie players. Tomas Rogic is booked.

A second change for Peru. Renato Tapia is replaced by Paolo Hurtado after picking up a knock.

  15. CLOSE!published at 62 mins

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Almost. This time the set-piece delivery is better from Australia but Aziz Behich's shot is deflected narrowly wide of the post.

Tim Cahill then gets his first sniff of goal but a Peru shirt dives across in front of his effort.

    Better from Australia.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 59 mins

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Australia now have their oldest and youngest squad member of the pitch. 19-year-old Daniel Arzani comes on for Robbie Kruse.

    Australia 0-2 Peru

Australia just don't look like scoring one goal never mind the three they need. One Aussie young fan has fallen asleep in the stands. That just about sums their performance up. The Peru fans are loving it meanwhile. The drum is beating and the supporters are bouncing.

Australia waste a couple of decent set-piece opportunities with poor deliveries.

Eugene: Australian football team summed up in one word. Insane (doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result)

Jack: Great moment for Guerrero and Peru there. All we need now is a Timmy Cahill goal

Group C as it standsImage source, BBC Sport

Paolo Guerrero's goal has pretty much confirmed Australia's exit from the World Cup. They are likely to finish bottom of Group C unless they muster some kind of comeback. Peru are still heading out too, but with some points on the board.

It's still goalless between Denmark and France so as it stands, the 1998 World Champions will top the group.
