GOAL - Australia 0-2 Perupublished at 50 mins

    Paolo Guerrero

    A classic poachers' goal.

The ball drops in the penalty area and Peru's captain Paolo Guerrero swivels to scoop the ball into the far corner. There's a slight deflection but Guerrero won't care. A kiss of the badge from the striker. He gets his goal at the World Cup 2018.

    Australia are going home.

    Australia 0-1 Peru

There's a little bit more pressing from Australia to start this second half but once again when they look to go forward the long pass to Tomi Juric is wayward.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:04 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Australia 0-1 Peru

Sorry guys. There's no sign of Tim Cahill at the break.

Peru bring on midfielder Pedro Aquino in place of Yoshimar Yotún, who was booked just before half-time, but there are no changes for Australia.

We're under way in the second half.

James: Come. On. Australia. GET TIMMY CAHILL ON!!

Jack: Come on man, get Cahill on. This is insane from the Aussie manager. Look at the top scorers chart from their qualifying campaign. Get that man Tim Cahill on, he's an Aussie legend. You have to play your best players, age is just a number.

  8. Juric in the lurchpublished at 16:00 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Australia 0-1 Peru

Tomi Juric is leading the Australia line and isn't having the busiest of days. Just 13 touches in that half, nine passes (five of them given away) and no shots on or off target.

Australia could do with more from their front man or perhaps they have to feed him more.

  11. Consistently grim at the break...published at 15:53 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Australia 0-1 Peru

This is Australia's 16th World Cup match - they have never been ahead at half-time in any of those 16 games.

  12. Australia heading outpublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Australia 0-1 Peru

It's not going to plan for Australia.

They need a win in this game to stand any chance of qualifying before those other permutations come into play.

Denmark will qualify with at least a point against France and with both teams drawing 0-0 at half-time in a relatively cagey affair, they look likely to go through.

France have already qualified and a draw or more will see them top the group.

I fear for Australia here. They're decent until they get to the final third but then don't look like scoring.

I'm also keeping an eye on the France-Denmark match and even more of a worry for Bert van Markwijk Australia is there seems very little interest from either team to risk losing a point.

Peru are heading back to South America with a victory.

  15. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45 mins

    Australia 0-1 Peru

Peru's Yoshimar Yotun picks up an unnecessary yellow card. He gives the ball way in midfield and then slides in in an attempt to win the ball back but doesn't get close.

    One minute is added.

    Australia 0-1 Peru

It's a powerful cross from Mooy but Trent Sainsbury is dealt with well by his Peruvian marker and the Aussie centre-back can't divert his header on goal.

The Peru fans are still making some racket.

  19. Postpublished at 40 mins

    Australia 0-1 Peru

It's still 0-0 in Moscow between France and Denmark by the way. So Australia need to find two goals here in Sochi and still hope the French find a winner.

The Socceroos have a decent chance here as Josh Risdon is hacked down on the right side of the box.

Huddersfield's Aaron Mooy will take the free-kick.

  20. Against the run of playpublished at 15:38 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

The opening 30 minutes brought more action in the Peru final third but that counts for little after Andre Carrillo's opener.

The Aussies have bettered possession and territory but have nothing other than a few missed chances to show for it.
