    Yikes - that was close!

Jerome Sinclair finds Bryan Oviedo unmarked and in acres of space in the box - and he tees it up invitingly for Sinclair, who is inches from goal...

And he pokes his shot wide!

Sunderland so close to what could have been a winning goal.

Bristol City have new faces Adam Webster and Andreas Weimann among their starting line-up for the visit of Nottingham Forest.

Forest name new striker Lewis Grabban on the bench with Daryl Murphy starting up front.

Birmingham start with Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams in attack for the visit of Norwich. The Canaries have new goalkeeper Tim Krul between the sticks while on-loan Jordan Rhodes leads the line in attack.

Brentford hand a debut to defender Ezri Konsa as they host promoted Rotherham. The Millers have new loan signing Sean Raggett among their substitutes.

New Ipswich boss Paul Hurst hands debuts to four of his summer signings with Ellis Harrison starting up front. There's no place for fellow striker and last season's top scorer Martyn Waghorn, who has been linked with moves to both Derby and Middlesbrough.

Promoted Blackburn have Bradley Dack, Dominic Samuel and Danny Graham in their starting line-up.

    Sunderland 1-1 Charlton

Sunderland have the visitors pinned in their own half and you have to credit Jack Ross for the changes he made at half-time.

The introduction of Jerome Sinclair and switch to a back three has seen his side dominate, with Chris Maguire, in particular, leading from the front.

Who'd have anticipated that at half-time?

    Sunderland 1-1 Charlton

Lee Bowyer has again targeted promotion this season, despite Charlton's well-documented off-field struggles, and he thinks his side have a chance if they can get through the first six weeks of a huge injury list.

But he probably doesn't like the sight of Chris Maguire wreaking havoc all over the park.

The Sunderland man cuts back on his left and directs an inviting inswinging ball to Bali Mumba's vicinity.

His team mate can't quite find the pace to meet it and it drifts just ahead of him.

To make matters worse for Bowyer, Chris Solly is on a yellow...

    Sunderland 1-1 Charlton

Lynden Gooch drives through the Charlton midfield, but he's sandwiched between two men and the Addicks surrender a needless foul.

Chris Maguire - who has been excellent this half - fires towards goal with the free-kick and Dillon Phillips has to leap to his left to avert the danger.

    Sunderland 1-1 Charlton

Charlton win a succession of corners, but none of them amount to anything.

Mark Marshall's elevated cross finds Patrick Bauer for a free header that zips towards the back post - but it drifts wide.

    Sunderland 1-1 Charlton

Charlton's George Lapslie looks to send Darren Pratley away, but his through ball is just a little too quick for the midfielder to latch on to.

We've talked a lot about Sunderland's Bali Mumba, 16, but Lapslie is making his first EFL start, too, lest we forget.

He's done well, all things considered, and has stepped up well amid Charlton's litany of first-team injuries.

James Smee: Just put a bet on Ipswich to come in the top six this year... time to start this season with a bang!

FoolsGetDunked: If Reading can convert some of our performances into wins, unlike Derby last night or the entirety of last season, then I can see us reaching Wembley again.

    Sunderland 1-1 Charlton

You absolutely feel this is in Sunderland's control now.

Chris Maguire has taken charge in midfield and the Black Cats' attack is relentless.

Charlton are struggling to find a foothold defensively but you might argue Sunderland haven't been as tidy offensively as their opponents were in the first half.

    Josh Maja

    Josh MajaImage source, Rex Features

Josh Maja's low, left-foot drive pulls Sunderland level!

I don't think Charlton expected Maja to shoot at all then, and they weren't ready to watch it slip past Dillon Phillips to draw the hosts level.

His second senior goal has got the fans singing at the Stadium of Light - they haven't been able to do that for all too long.

    Sunderland 0-1 Charlton

The corner barely troubles Charlton, but Sunderland are looking far better since the introduction of Jerome Sinclair, on loan from Watford.

He's brought the guile, invention and purpose they really needed in the first half.

  14. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Sunderland 0-1 Charlton

It takes the joint effort of Charlton's Mark Marshall and Chris Solly to steer George Honeyman away, after the Sunderland man's rampaging run takes out a smattering of Addicks defenders.

This is much better from Sunderland, as Bryan Oviedo's low shot is deflected behind by Solly for a corner.

    Sunderland 0-1 Charlton

Chris Maguire's low right-footed shot drifts just wide for Sunderland - but the biggest roar is reserved for Jerome Sinclair, who's back on the pitch after clashing heads with Chris Solly minutes ago.

Not too long to go now until the team news is out for the 15:00 BST kick-offs in the Championship, before they're printed, here's a couple more of your predictions....

Ramsgate Red: Derby WILL NOT finish third, please stop kidding yourselves and definitely won't be champions. Stoke and Villa (unless they sell star players) to go up automatically and it really is anyone's guess who finishes in the play-offs, although I'm tipping my team Forest to be involved, a very good squad this season and should be challenging at the right end for once.

David: When you try to rank the teams you soon realise what a competitive league it is. Not much between a lot of teams.

    Karlan GrantImage source, PA

Charlton pick up where they left off, Karlan Grant and Lyle Taylor taunting the Black Cats with tricky footwork.

Chris Solly is back on the pitch for Charlton, but Jerome Sinclair is still receiving treatment in the dressing room.

    Sunderland 0-1 Charlton

Jerome Sinclair goes down the tunnel to receive treatment, but Chris Solly is still down on the field.

This already depleted Charlton team really can't do with another injury, but the doctors are wiping blood from Solly's head, so it doesn't look good.

There was no venom in the challenge - the two players kept their eyes on the ball the whole time - but they collided with real force.

Solly is on his feet but he's holding a bloodied tissue to his head. He might need further attention.

    Sunderland 0-1 Charlton

Adam Matthews is on the charge from centre back for Sunderland - that switch to a back three, eh? - and he rages forward unchallenged to slip a cross through to Jerome Sinclair.

The Black Cats substitute can't quite get on the end of it, but he clashes with Charlton's Chris Solly as the pair rise to meet the ball and both are down receiving treatment.

    Sunderland 0-1 Charlton

Sunderland have started better this half, with Jerome Sinclair and Josh Maja in particular looking bright.

That said, Lee Bowyer's Charlton revert to type at the other end, as Joe Aribo finds Mark Marshall.

He hits a swerving ball that Black Cats keeper Jon McLaughlin meets with ease.
