Sheffield United have almost been camped in Swansea's half for the past five minutes or so, but Swansea goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt isn't having too much to do at present.

The Blades' final ball needs to be a bit better.

  2. Johnson praises Forest qualitypublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

FT: Bristol City 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Lee Johnson's side flew out the blocks when new signing Andreas Weimann opened his Robins account with the game just five minutes old - before Forest levelled with even quicker pace just a minute into the second half.

"I thought we started really well," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol. "Buoyed by a fantastic crowd, we managed to get a goal early and we dominated the first half, and probably could have extended our lead.

"Second half - you have to be honest and say it was a different story.

"Their quality shone through, if you like. It was difficult to contain them at times, but I thought we showed a lot of heart in the way we defended."

  3. Collins' Bradford off to winning startpublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Shrewsbury 0-1 Bradford

At 32, Michael Collins is the youngest manager in the EFL, and he got his Bradford side off to a perfect start as they beat last season's play-off finalists Shrewsbury.

"I was delighted with the character," Collins said of his squad. "The first game of the season is always going to be difficult, but all I asked of my side today was that they stepped forward as men.

"We went straight on the front foot, and credit to Shrewsbury - they are a very good side, and it will be very difficult for sides to go there and pick up points. They're still riding the wave of the play-offs."

  4. Monk emphasises positives in 'frustrating' drawpublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Birmingham 2-2 Norwich

Fresh from surviving in emphatic style last season by beating eventual promotion-winners Fulham on the last day, Garry Monk's side almost opened with three points this season in a breathless second half - until Norwich levelled in the 94th minute.

"It's always frustrating when you've got the lead with a minute to go and you concede a late equaliser," he told BBC WM. "But I think the pleasing part of today is that there were a lot of positives.

"I think the most pleasing bit is that you can see how focused we are and how focused the players were, wanting to compete for the club.

"It was probably a fair result if you go on the chances that both teams had, but it's always frustrating when you concede at the last minute.

"But we made too many mistakes in the build-up to their two goals. In this league, it happens to punish you."

Still awaiting our first goal at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United have looked more likely to score the opener, but new Swansea boss Graham Potter will be content with how his team have repelled any danger and looked neat and tidy on the ball at times.

  7. Moore calls Bolton defeat a 'good wake-up call'published at 17:49 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: West Brom 1-2 Bolton

It wasn't the start to the season Darren Moore's West Brom would have wanted as they search for an instant return to the Premier League.

They fell behind after just 18 minutes to Bolton, who clung on to Championship survival by the skin of their teeth last season, but managed to pull one back before Wanderers snatched all three points in the final minute of normal time.

"We had a full house here and everybody's arrived looking for the season campaign to open off with three points," Moore told BBC WM.

"But it's never easy in this league. We know the Championship is very, very tough, and we've clearly seen - evidently - today what's expected going forward.

"It's a good wake-up call for everybody - for the neutralists if they think that we're going to arrive in this league and have it our own way. It's not going to be the case.

"I'm going to give Bolton credit, because they knew the game plan and how to come up here and play against us."

  10. Difficult opener for Pulispublished at 17:41 British Summer Time 4 August 2018

    FT: Millwall 2-2 Middlesbrough

Tony Pulis' Middlesbrough began their quest for the play-offs by labouring to a point at Millwall in hot, difficult conditions.

They were 2-0 down at the break, before two goals in a frantic spell - one at 87 minutes and one at 90+7 - pulled them level.

"Let's put everything into perspective at the moment," he told BBC Tees. "In the group that have come here, we're six [players] short of what we finished the season with. If you look at the team, it's half the team we finished with last season.

"First half, we were poor. We sat back, we never got after it, we never got the ball forward, we never got enough possession in their half to cause problems.

"There were a few choice words at half-time, we made a couple of changes, and the last 20-25 minutes, we showed our teeth for the first time in the game.

"The atmosphere here can be ferocious at times. It always riles me up to put one over on them."

Daryl Murphy's 46th-minute equaliser cancelled out Andreas Weimann's first-half header as Aitor Karanka's side began their season with a point at Ashton Gate.

''I'm happy especially with the second half - everything in pre season has been almost perfect. The team didn't realise the Championship started today - it's been a wake up call," Karanka told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"In the second half we looked a different team, like we did in pre-season... we need to go into the game with the same intensity as the opposition.''
