Leicester have two debutants in the side today (Maddison and Ricardo) and they could introduce three more from the bench.

Danny Ward, Jonny Evans and Rachid Ghezzal are all among the subs.

Ah, Alexis Sanchez. Let's be honest, he was poor last season when he joined Manchester United midway through the campaign. But Jose Mourinho did say he was more of a signing for this season. So now he has to really deliver, doesn't he?

He starts bang up front through the middle tonight.

Jay: Need Pogba to shine as captain tonight. After winning the World Cup, he needs to bring that mentality to his performances. Pereira and Fred are good and also Luke Shaw needs to have a consistent run in the team.

Jay Barnes: Wes Morgan is going to need every bit of help he can get from Maguire or else fully expect Rashford/Sanchez to tear him apart. Unless Borinho prevents them from venturing beyond the half way line, of course

Those two, Lindelof and Bailly, start at centre-back tonight. At the other end they will come up against Harry Maguire.

I think he won every single header out in Russia didn't he? How close or not he came to leaving Leicester this summer we may never know. But he looks happy enough as he goes through his warm-ups.

Was Jose Mourinho right to want another centre-back?

Andreas, from Stavanger in Norway, says yes. His dad, Eric, says no.

“We should have brought one more defender in but otherwise we are looking pretty strong,” Andreas said. "I am happy with with what we have got and I think we will have a good season."

"I would echo that," says his dad Eric. “But I think Victor Lindelof will improve this season so I hope him and Eric Bailly will progress together as our pairing at the back."

    We all need a holiday...

Just wondering if there is a correlation between the low mood in the United camp and the fact that Lingard was on holiday the whole time...

Why is Vardy on the bench?? He's been sat on the bench all summer!!! He surely doesn't need a rest!!

Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said: "I don't want to speak about the season, I want to speak about the match. We are going to try everything to start well and go into next week with a good spirit. The players involved in the World Cup semi-finals started training on Monday and some of them are involved today to help the team.

"Nemanja Matic is unavailable, Jesse Lingard doesn't feel he is in a position to help us but Romelu Lukaku can give us a hand from the bench. Antonio Valencia is the captain but he is not here so Paul Pogba is captain. He has come up through the academy and he knows what the club means."

Are United fans feeling downbeat? No chance.

Darren Connolly, who is over from Ireland with his sons (from right to left) Oran, Rian and Orsian, says he is looking forward to the season getting started.

"Are we feeling optimistic? Absolutely. A couple of signings didn’t come off but we have a good enough squad to do as well as we did last year and hopefully be up there or thereabouts come May.”

Darren is going for a 2-0 United win today… Rian reckons 3-1 and Oran (who is actually a Liverpool fan) 3-0. Orsian says United will score 20… now that is optimistic.

Jethro: That @ManUtd, external midfield 3 should be very creative, would be nice to see Rashford's pace used

Loser92: Looking at Manchester United’s starting line-up I’d say Leicester City have an excellent opportunity to bag all three points at the Theatre of Dreams tonight.

Manchester United's main summer signing Fred makes his debut in midfield.

Brazilian midfielder Andreas Pereira, 22, makes his first Premier League start, while Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly start together at the back - with Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian at full-back.

Paul Pogba captains the side - but striker Romelu Lukaku is only on the bench, with Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rashford in the starting XI.

Two Leicester City players make their debuts - James Maddison and Ricardo Pereira. England World Cup hero Harry Maguire starts against the team who reportedly tried to sign him this summer, but Jamie Vardy is on the bench.

Kelechi Iheanacho - who has enjoyed a decent pre-season - starts up front. The Foxes have two summer signings on the bench, Danny Ward, Jonny Evans and Rachid Ghezzal.

I'm looking forward to seeing James Maddison in action tonight. He was superb on loan up at Aberdeen and then ripped the Championship up for Norwich last season. Also, he's guided my Northampton side to the Premier League on FM. So hopefully he'll be as good IRL...

The first few fans are in their seats at Old Trafford as the Manchester United goalkeepers begin to warm up.

It's an odd approach to players returning from the World Cup. Jamie Vardy and Romelu Lukaku are only fit enough to be on the bench but Paul Pogba, who won the thing, captains United from the off.

You’ve probably heard a lot about what the media make of Manchester United’s ‘difficult' summer, and the mood of their manager, but what about the fans?

I asked Steve Armstrong, who writes and sells long-running fanzine ‘United We Stand’ (and puts together a podcast as well), what he thinks about United’s prospects.

Armstrong said: "I’ve been coming here long enough to know United have an expectation of winning stuff and also an expectation to compete, but it does not give you a divine right and an entitlement to it.

"What we have got is a squad that Jose Mourinho took forward by 12 points and four places last season so you have got to take that into account.

"You have also got to take into account that he has added a good midfielder in Fred and a decent right-back in Diogo Dalot. All right, he might not have got some of his elite targets but it is still a strong squad that should be able to be competitive.

"So, Jose just needs to sort his face out now and accept that the window is shut. He didn’t get who he wanted, fine - we all want United to sign this that and the other - but it is done now, get over it and go and win games of football."
