    Michael Appleton
Ex-Leicester City assistant manager on Final Score

This is already a massive game for West Ham United. Looking at their fixtures after today they are very difficult. When you have a fixture list like that, it can be a difficult time if they don't get three points today.

    Those next West Ham games...

    • 25 August v Arsenal A
    • 1 September v Wolves H
    • 16 September v Everton A
    • 23 September v Chelsea H
    • 29 September v Manchester United H

  2. McNulty's season predictions - Bournemouthpublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

Eddie Howe has now established Bournemouth in the Premier League to the point where few discuss them as potential strugglers - so I won't start here.

Expect another solid season of consolidation for the Cherries, with spectacular victories and defeats occasionally arriving in swift succession.

Lewis Cook is a midfield player much admired by England manager Gareth Southgate while Howe has also fleshed out his squad elsewhere with the arrivals of players such as promising youngster David Brooks from Sheffield United and club record signing Jefferson Lerma, the Colombian midfielder who joined from Levante in a £25m deal.

West Ham's owners have certainly delivered on their promise to show ambition on and off the pitch as they attempt to put last season's misery at the London Stadium behind them.

Manuel Pellegrini, a title winner at Manchester City, has arrived to replace David Moyes as manager - although it remains to be seen if this relentlessly low-key personality can ignite the home fires so crucial to the Hammers.

He has certainly been supported in the market with the arrival of the likes of Jack Wilshere, Issa Diop from Toulouse, Felipe Anderson from Lazio and the talented Andriy Yarmolenko from Borussia Dortmund.

It's never easy predicting West Ham but there just may be a better season ahead.

  5. Lawro's predictionpublished at 14:51 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

West Ham v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender and BBC football expert

I was at Anfield on Sunday to see West Ham's 4-0 defeat by Liverpool, and they were far too open.

New Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has bought a lot of attacking players and probably wants to play in a way that gives his side's fans something to get excited about.

But if they are going to keep leaving the back door open like that all season, they are going to be in trouble.

If Pellegrini had set up in 4-5-1 and sat deep, I would have understood, but Liverpool carved them open almost at will - and the scoreline could have been a lot worse.

Bournemouth are not a team I consider to be one of the strongest on the road, but they always pick up some decent away points and I quite fancy them to get something here.

    Lawro's prediction: 1-1

There has already been some Premier League action today, and it is a bad day if you've just brought Kenedy into your Fantasy Football team.

He missed an injury-time penalty for 10-man Newcastle at Cardiff as it ended 0-0, as the newly promoted hosts earned a first point of the Premier League season in dramatic fashion.

  9. 'It is going to be a tough game at West Ham'published at 14:41 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

West Ham v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

But for Bournemouth it was a winning start to the campaign and this how boss Eddie Howe reacted after their 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

  10. 'Important not to become despondent'published at 14:40 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

This is what West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini said after that 4-0 defeat at Anfield.

He said it was important for his side not to become despondent after that loss. How will they respond today?

Bournemouth are unchanged from the side that beat Cardiff 2-0 last week, with Jermain Defoe on the bench against the team where he began his career.

The teams are in, so let's start with the selections from the London Stadium.

  13. Bursting the optimism bubblepublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

A new Premier League-winning manager coming in, nine new summer signings (including an England international), almost £100m spent in the transfer window, it is fair to say optimism was high at West Ham going into this season.

That optimism lasted one match, before Liverpool came along and handed them an opening weekend hammering to burst West Ham's bubble.

Today West Ham face their first home match of the campaign, against a Bournemouth side that have started the campaign very nicely indeed.
