    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Southampton's formation is a throwback to early Premier League days.

4-4-2. Mike Bassett would love that.

Danny Ings crosses from the right towards strike partner Charlie Austin, whose shot from the edge of the box is blocked.

  2. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Leicester 0-0 Wolves

Leicester quick out of the blocks. Demarai Gray is already looking to influence the game from the left. His first cross is whipped in but headed away.

  3. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Everton 0-0 Southampton

Southampton showing their intent early by working the ball quickly towards striker Danny Ings - making his first start - but big Michael Keane steps across in the nick of time to head the ball to safety.

That will be an intriguing battle, little v large.

  6. 'Hammers fans reserve judgement'published at 14:56 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

West Ham v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

Though naturally concerned by some aspects of their capitulation at Anfield, West Ham fans will more realistically reserve early judgement of the new Manuel Pellegrini era until they've witnessed this weekend's events.

As clashes with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are on the agenda before the end of September, there's certainly a feeling that they could do with beating a team who have won just two of their last 15 away trips.

That said, Bournemouth's victory against Cardiff a week ago means they are now closing in on a club-record fourth straight top-flight success and having not lost to the Hammers in almost two years, their expectations will be high.

  7. Welcome back to Wembleypublished at 14:55 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Tottenham v Fulham (15:00 BST)

    Simon Brotherton
    Match of the Day commentator

Fulham might be happier to play at Wembley than their hosts this weekend. May's play-off win over Aston Villa will be fresh in the memory for the newly-promoted side, while Spurs were hoping this would be the last match at their temporary home before the opening of their new stadium.

That's no longer the case and with the club apologising to fans, the whole situation is further complicated because an NFL game is booked at Wembley on the day they're supposed to host Manchester City in late October.

Amid the off-field turmoil, Tottenham at least made a winning start at Newcastle last week, while Fulham are still waiting to get off the mark after falling at home to Crystal Palace.

  8. 'Trouble at Leicester? Surely not'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Leicester v Wolves (15:00 BST)

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

With Jamie Vardy having signed a new contract, Harry Maguire about to, and a fresh new feel to the squad, all should be well in Leicester's world - shouldn't it?

Even in defeat at Manchester United last week there were signs that they're set for a decent season, with or without Claude Puel, external. Another loss in this one would only increase the chatter about his future, whether that's equitable or not.

I think the Foxes will secure another top-half finish, and that Wolves won't be far behind.

They've already served up one entertaining game on their Premier League return, and I can foresee something similar here.

  9. 'Everton optimistic, Saints hopeful'published at 14:52 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Everton v Southampton (15:00 BST)

    Mark Scott
    Match of the Day commentator

Everton fans were understandably enthused with what they saw in Marco Silva's first game in charge, with the Toffees showing positivity and purpose even after going down to 10 men.

Throw Richarlison's impressive debut and the rest of their summer transfer business into the mix and there's likely to be a level of optimism that hasn't been felt around Goodison Park for quite a while.

Southampton were disorganised and disjointed to start off with in their season opener, but looked much better after Mark Hughes made changes to both formation and personnel.

The introduction of Danny Ings was a major factor in their improvement and having only just left Liverpool he could well make his first Saints start on Merseyside.

The Everton fans will appreciate the football that new boss Marco Silva tries to play and there will be a great atmosphere for his first home game in charge - there always is at Goodison Park, no matter how good the team are.

    Prediction: 2-0

    Michael Appleton
Leicester City assistant manager on Final Score

This is already a massive game for West Ham United. Looking at their fixtures after today they are very difficult. When you have a fixture list like that, it can be a difficult time if the don't get three points today.

    Those next West Ham games...

    • 25 August v Arsenal A
    • 1 September v Wolves H
    • 16 September v Everton A
    • 23 September v Chelsea H
    • 29 September v Manchester United H
    • 5 October v Brighton A
    • 20 October v Tottenham H

Bournemouth are not a team I consider to be one of the strongest on the road, but they always pick up some decent away points and I quite fancy them to get something here.

Leicester lost to Manchester United in their opening game but they put in a decent performance.

Wolves came from behind twice to draw with Everton last week and this is another big test for them. I'm expecting the Foxes to make a lot of chances.

    Leicester v Wolves

    Paul Ince
Former MK Dons manager on Football Focus

It is great to have Wolves back in the Premier League. We got promoted for 2003/04 but never spent the money to stay in the league. To see them get there and have a go and spend money and bring in players like Joao Moutinho is great. Ruben Neves is the main man, makes them tick, and his passing is second to none.

    Tottenham v Fulham (15:00 BST)

Tottenham put in a pretty solid performance to beat Newcastle last week.

My worry about Fulham is that they are easy on the eye and play nice football, but where are their goals going to come from?

I don’t see the fuss around Tottenham waiting to move back to White Hart Lane. The new stadium looks fabulous; they’ve got a good record at Wembley. I think it will be more a problem when they move back to White Hart Lane. I don’t see a problem apart from the millions lost every day trying to get the stadium ready.

It is easy to spend £100m in modern football. Getting the players you recruit for that money to integrate is another matter altogether.

It takes time to fashion familiarity - both with each other and a style of play. Fulham are in the early stages of finding this out, as are West Ham, who have the added wrinkle of a new manager with new ideas.

Take these comments from Manuel Pellegrini in his pre-match press conference: "We are trying to change our mentality. Last season we tried to play on the counter-attack and this year we want to have more minutes in the other team's half with the ball.

"Every week is important when you bring so many players in and make so many changes. You work on your team and every week it can be better."

Whether it id done with style or not, though, the Hammers will want to pick up points at the London Stadium - not always the happiest of places last season.

  20. Richarlison gets his groove backpublished at 14:31 British Summer Time 18 August 2018

    Everton v Southampton (15:00 BST)

Looks like a change of scenery has done Richarlison an absolute world of good.

The young Brazilian scored with both of his shots on his Everton debut last weekend against Wolves and looked every inch the player that started last season in superb fashion for Watford.

Prior to last weekend, he'd failed to find the net with his last 53 attempts for the Hornets in the Premier League. That's me in 5-a-side levels of conversion.

There must be something about Marco Silva that gets him ticking.
