Sophie Gayter: Sanchez looks like he’s lost a yard of pace. Doesn’t seem to be able to beat his man in the way he used to in an Arsenal shirt.

Babatunde Sakiru: Alex Sanchez is struggling to make a positive contribution. I hope he rediscovers his mojo...

Tareq Abdelbari: Once Sanchez clicks United will be much better.

Corner Watford. Jose Holebas, pretender to the assist throne, with a deep one to the far post that is cleared comfortably. Antonio Valencia then pings the ball straight to a Watford shirt on the far side.

Holebas finds himself with another chance to deliver a long throw. He gives it the big build-up but plays it small and short, as Roberto Pereyra overhits a cross.

Short on real quality this so far - both sides.

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

Watford stifling in numbers as Manchester United probe. Possession is theirs, it's just a question of finding an outlet for it.

On the counter Andre Gray is ready to race up the field after any opportunity.

  4. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 24 mins

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

It's Ashley Young who whips it in (boos diminishing now) and Ben Foster makes a bit of a meal of things, missing with a punch.

The away side recycle possession and Nemanja Matic lofts into the box where an offside Alexis Sanchez controls and fires into the net. The flag is up as soon as he touches it.

Jack Allen: Is Sanchez playing for Watford? Only seems to be giving the ball to their players!

Ash Williams: This United side don’t press, they jog back. Too many egos and not enough effort

Watford sitting off now. No pressure at the back, no chasing down unless it reaches inside their own half. Even then the tactic seems to be hold deep and let them come on to us.

Ashley Young wins a corner - the first of the game.

  7. 'Pereyra and Deeney looking confident'published at 17:49 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

You can see the confidence in Watford players. Pereyra tries a flick and should have taken the shot, he gets another chance and sets it for Deeney who managed to get the shot off.

De Gea would be disappointed if he didn't saved it but it showed the confidence of the two players.

Momentum building for Watford it seems. The home fans are up in arms as the ref waves away appeals for a foul on Roberto Pereyra as he was running into the box.

It dims though as Jesse Lingaard does really well to win a 50-50 in midfield. The away side now looking to cool things a touch with some easy passing.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 16 mins

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

A really fine save by David de Gea. Troy Deeney is always the option for a big boom up the park and eventually his knock-down finds a way back to him. The forward drives on and digs out a fierce shot inside the box that De Gea does brilliantly to tip over the bar.

Have to say, there's some pretty impressive co-ordination in the stands, too. Seems like there are alternate blocks of yellow and black on show. Has everyone been told to turn up in a particular colour? Surely that's far too complicated to pull off.

  11. 'Midfield movement worrying Watford'published at 17:44 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

United movement in the midfield between Pogba, Matic and Fellaini, Watford are finding it hard to get close to those three.

Pogba shot on the edge of the box and it was a comfortable save, but the rotation from their midfield is causing problems.

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

Paul Pogba from the edge of the box, there is so much room for him as a back-post cross is recycled by Ashley Young (boos again).

Pogba winds up a drive but it's pretty soft and easy for Ben Foster to collect.

Down the other end, Will Hughes spins away from Young with a fine touch before failing to really test David de Gea either, another tame shot.

No signs of a shortage of confidence then from the home side. They're looking comfortable. No fear. No surprises given the form they're on.

  14. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

Nice work from Watford. It's slick as they cleanly steal the ball out from underneath Alexis Sanchez, Will Hughes and Abdoulaye Doucoure exchanging in midfield.

Patient now as they go back before Daryl Janmaat finds space to dink in a cross from the right wing, the top of Nemanja Matic's haircut getting in the way of its destination at the far post.

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

Abdoulaye Doucoure's having a funny five minutes. He gives the ball away here, setting Manchester United off with a chance on the counter. Ashley Young is played in down the left, but the former Watford man (boos again) sees a cross easily fielded by Ben Foster.

I'm a big fan of Abdoulaye Doucoure but this effort is wild. Always rising as he swipes at a bouncing ball outside the box.

  17. 'Watford should be wary of United counter'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 15 September 2018

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

    Derek Payne
Former Watford midfielder at Vicarage Road for BBC Three Counties Radio

The key for Watford is when they have they have a good period be clinical and keep the back door shut when they are on top, because Manchester United like to counter attack.

  18. CHANCE!published at 2 mins

    Watford 0-0 Man Utd

There's work to do already. Ben Foster is out off his line sharpish as Romelu Lukaku just can't quite bring a magical Alexis Sanchez lofted through ball under his spell. Foster takes the ball cleanly as he dives at feet.

Watford are stacked deep early on but the big Belgian was in regardless.
