Great work from Son, there's no better feeling than when you beat a defender so cleanly. Moura can't believe he's put that wide, should be 2-0 Spurs.

  2. CLOSE!published at 44 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Another chance missed by Lucas Moura. This one looked a sitter as he's left unmarked seven yards out but the Spurs forward sidefoots wide of the post. In fairness there were plenty of bodies between him and the goal but the Brazilian should have hit the target.

Give Lloris his due there that's a great save. He's got to time that right and he's done exactly that.

    Good timing and positioning, excellent.

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

That's much better from Hugo Lloris. This time he is decisive and rushes off his line to beat Josh Murphy to the ball.

Callum Paterson won another flick-on to set-up that chance. That will worry Spurs.

I think Spurs have realised that they were getting themselves in to dangerous territory, they've woken themselves up a bit here to get themselves on the front foot.

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Oooof. How Tottenham must wish this chance came to Harry Kane not Lucas Moura. The Brazilian leaps well to meet a cross from Kieran Tripper but can't get high enough to keep his header down. Kane's greater height may well have meant that was a goal.

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

More good pressure from Cardiff. Son Heung-min tries to play out from his own left-back position but miscontrols and gives away a throw. This has not been all Spurs as you might have expected after the early goal.

Excellent block from Cardiff's Sean Morrison. Spurs break quickly through Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane but the Englishman's shot is blocked. Kane is annoyed he wasn't given the ball sooner by Lucas. He's probably right. The angle was always difficult.

Spurs have taken their foot off the gas. Surprisingly Cardiff have come here to have a real go and they're playing some great football.

Hoilett is having an excellent game so far, there was no way he was looking for a penalty there - it was just a slip.

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Harry Kane has been quiet so far but there's his first shot. It's well hit from distance but comfortable for Neil Etheridge. Kane has never scored against Cardiff, the only one of the 27 teams he has faced in the Premier League that he has failed to find the net against.

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Junior Hoilett goes down in the box but the appeals for a penalty come from the Cardiff fans rather than the players. "Come onnnnn you Spurrrrrrrs," chant the home fans. Tottenham need lifting. They've hardly had the ball in the last five minutes.

  13. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Many of you will remember that Hugo Lloris was criticised for rushing off his line on Wednesday night against Barcelona, allowing Philippe Coutinho to score Barca's first goal. This was the opposite. Lloris stayed when he should have come.

Cardiff are having a good spell.

  14. 'He's having a crisis out there'published at 15:25 British Summer Time 6 October 2018

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Far too tentative from Lloris there, he should have come out. How many times have we said that Lloris is too slow to come off his line? That should be cleared straight away.

He's having a crisis out there!

  15. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Out of nowhere Cardiff almost get an equaliser! Two Spurs defenders are beaten to the ball by Cardiff's Callum Paterson who wins the flick-on. Hugo Lloris then hesitates in coming off his line and that allows Josh Murphy to get to the ball first. Murphy flicks the ball over the Frenchman and it's heading in until Toby Alderweireld makes a brilliant last-ditch slide to clear off the line.

It's damp at Wembley and not a perfect day for a long-throw specialist. Cardiff's Sean Morrison is still going to give it a go...

It comes to nothing. Not the best.

Spurs have the three attacking players up the field and they're just forcing the ball forward as they're trying to play out from the back.

It's not back to the walls stuff from Cardiff yet, they're frustrating Spurs.

    Tottenham 1-0 Cardiff

Is it too early for Cardiff to be worrying about how their 'relegation rivals' are doing? I ask because Huddersfield have just fallen behind against Burnley. That's probably good news for the Welsh side.

Back at Wembley, Lucas Moura has a snap shot on the turn inside the penalty area but it's comfortably saved by Neil Etheridge.

Moussa Sissoko has just given the ball away and then been nutmegged within the space of five seconds...

    Home sweet home?

David: Given the state of the Wembley pitch and the number of spectators, Spurs should perhaps play their games in Milton Keynes until their new home (which could be a rumour anyway) is finished.
