    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

A bad touch from Benjamin Mendy at right-back promises some danger but a cross in is well dealt with before it can reach Roberto Firmino.

Still no effort on target from either side as Firmino charges down another Ederson clearance. Press on!

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

The first 30 minutes saw both sides pressing the life out of each other but now it's strangely passive from both sets of players. A lot of neutrals will surely have zoned out.

That's the first time in 32 years of playing and broadcasting I've seen a goalkeeper pass it backwards in his own six yard box!

Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush are on the pitch at half time. Just the 529 Liverpool goals between them!

Those in the home end would settle for one in this second half.

As it stands Manchester City are going back to the top of the table. The top three are halfway to being safe.

That was low-key wasn't it? Other descriptions are available. Manchester City seem very happy to subdue Liverpool and not get themselves into the sort of games where they were over-run here last season.

And on that basis Pep Guardiola will be the happier manager.

The more I watch Laporte, the more I think he's a very, very good player. The amount of times he breaks up an attack by reading it well is remarkable. (Definitely just put the mockers on him!)

    Nick, London.

We're really missing the width provided by Alexander-Arnold this afternoon. Pushing Gomez to right back to accommodate Lovren was an odd decision and thus far it's not payed off.

  14. 'I'm disappointed'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Southampton 0-3 Chelsea

    Southampton

Southampton's Maya Yoshida speaking to Sky Sports:

"We started well defensively and we knew it was not going to be a repeat of the Liverpool game.

"I think we had more possibilities [to score], but from 2-0 it's difficult and we shouldn't concede the third goal.

"Some players played well in the Carabao Cup game at Everton, that's why the manager has made several changes. It was a big opportunity for myself, so I'm disappointed.

"It's an international break now, so it's important to make sure no one gets injured, it is going to be important time in October."

  16. 'Working to cover the gap'published at 17:22 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Southampton 0-3 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri tells Match of the Day:

"I think that we have played a good match and I am really very happy for our fans because I think our support today was excellent.

"I think we can do more in the defensive phase. In the second half we have given them two or three opportunities so we can do more.

"I know Eden Hazard very well, we have never seen 100% from him. He is improving, but I think that he can do better.

"It's important for Alvaro Morata to play like he did in the last game of the Europa League and the last 30 minutes today."

On title hopes: "I think the same as I did a week ago. I think Manchester City and Liverpool are a step in front of us so we are working to cover the gap."

  17. 'We lacked belief'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Southampton 0-3 Chelsea

    Southampton

Southampton manager Mark Hughes tells Match of the Day:

"We showed Chelsea too much respect and allowed their players time and space. We needed to get closer, to force them back but we never did that.

"We had a chance at 0-0 for Danny Ings, if that goes in we get a different frame of mind. We never got any momentum. Sometimes you have to be brave and we weren't able to do that.

"Chelsea are playing well, and with confidence but I expect us to do better.

"Today, I have to say, I was disappointing in terms of our performance. We lacked the belief that we could get something out of this game. We performed well at Everton but have not made that level again."

Joe: Are we allowed to say this game is terrible?

Mark Ryan: City stifling Liverpool here. Klopp will need to change things a bit.

Ash Williams: Mahrez looks out of his depth at City. The rest of the team make him look average.
