  1. Man City furious againpublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Manchester City felt a succession of key decisions went against them when they played Liverpool in the Champions League last season - and their reaction after Dejan Lovren's clumsy challenge on Sergio Aguero suggests they will feel the same sense of injustice again.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

David Sommeil and Kevin Horlock were playing for City in that win at Anfield in 2003. Nicolas Anelka got a double.

The fact I've got time to look up a 15-year-old teamsheet tells you that it's gone off the boil a bit.

In fact, if I was allowed to I might even say this game's a bit boring.

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

It's a late challenge on Salah. He holds up the ball well and then Silva catches him right on the toe just as he goes to pass it.

    City a bit naughty today.

  6. YELLOW CARDpublished at 22 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Who had Bernardo Silva for first booking? Nobody?

Didn't think so. Niggly foul though.

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Benjamin Mendy, who has recovered from injury faster than James Howlett, puts in a good cross and Dejan Lovren does really well to dive in and head that away from the waiting Sergio Aguero.

The ball comes back in, and oooh is that a penalty?! Lovren was a touch clumsy at the back of Aguero, who goes down. No interest from ref Martin Atkinson, and it was perhaps more stumble than anything else.

Lovren must have had a bead of sweat on his brow though...

Box office managers everywhere you look. Quite placid compared to yesterday though.

By this stage of the Newcastle game Jose Mourinho had already seen his side go 2-0 down and hauled off a £30m centre-back to put a teenage midfielder at the back. Maverick.

  9. 'Klopp looks slightly happier'published at 16:49 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Gary Flintoff
BBC Radio 5 live reporter at Anfield

I am keeping one eye on the technical areas this afternoon. Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola are probably the most animated coaches in the Premier League. Klopp looks slightly happier so far and Guardiola has spent quite a significant amount of time sat on the bench since kick-off.

Football on steroids. The pace of this game is supreme. Every player capable of taking the ball and giving it inside a phonebox.

Gini Wijnaldum very impressive so far. Liverpool then go for a big long ball over the top which almost connects with Mo Salah...

Danger at the Kop now for Liverpool - Joe Gomez loses the ball and Fernandinho comes forward at pace. He has options either side and chooses Raheem Sterling to his left.

He dances inside, blocking out the hate, and gets a shot away but Gomez has recovered well to make a sliding block.

Corner, which Liverpool clear and counter well from, James Milner almost finds Mo Salah in the area, cleared.

    It's relentless.

  12. 'Where's the atmosphere?'published at 16:45 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

    Dion Dublin

Where's the noise, where are the songs, where's the atmosphere?

I can't hear anything at the moment. Is it nerves?

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

Liverpool corner, City form a line just outside the six-yard box as Liverpool line up five yards away, more like a Six Nations line-out. It causes a bit of panic too as a Red head wins the first ball but it's not a clean connection and Manchester City can clear.

Sergio Aguero loses the ball cheaply. Only his third touch.

Jurgen Klopp is gesticulating like a New York traffic cop while Pep Guardiola slumps back in his racecar seat like a sullen teenager.

Make of that what you will. Dion Dublin, used to the pressure cooker of a property auction, is not impressed with the Anfield atmosphere.

    Raise it!

    Liverpool 0-0 Man City

City will play out from every opportunity they get - are they playing into Liverpool's hands, or is just good tactics?

Showboating! Brilliant from Andrew Robertson, who lifts the ball over the head of Kyle Walker and gets around him, took the England man by surprise. He looks to drill the ball across but it's well blocked away for a corner.

  17. Sloppy start from Man Citypublished at 16:39 British Summer Time 7 October 2018

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Liverpool much more urgent in these opening stages and Manchester City uncharacteristically sloppy in possession, which has already brought some frantic arm waving from manager Pep Guardiola. It is already allowing Liverpool to build momentum.

Possession deadlocked at 50-50% in these early stages, but it's Liverpool who look the more threatening so far.

Dangerous - Jordan Henderson snaps in to take the ball from Fernandinho just past halfway and Liverpool suddenly have three on three.

The ball is fizzed into the path of Sadio Mane but his touch betrays him and City clear.

Mane then comes down the left and stands up a cross which Mo Salah shows interest in but Benjamin Mendy clears.

    Liverpool buzzing.

A late afternoon burst of sun streaks across the pitch, painting shadows and maybe blinding Ederson. The City keeper is seeing plenty of the ball. He's the only man given any time to get on it.
