Anyway, Shane reckons he's a Chelsea fan. Why?

He explained: "I had caught the train from Bristol to London and was on the tube when some guy with a Chelsea scarf and Chelsea stuff all over him came up to me and said 'who do you support?'.

"I looked at him and in his hand he had a big knife - a bit like the one Paul Hogan had in Crocodile Dundee when he says 'that's a knife' - so I said 'I support Chelsea'.

"And ever since then, I have been too scared to support anyone else."

It’s been an accomplished performance from Maurizio Sarri so far in England.

He came at a time where Antonio Conte left a bonfire in his wake, a lot of unhappy players who were ready for a change.

Most impressive is his decisiveness with tactical changes, he has thrown out Conte’s league- winning model. It has cost some people in the team.

It was always a strong squad to inherit even without Eden Hazard, so it was not a poisoned chalice but credit to him.

Both sides make two changes - Chelsea have Morata and Kovacic in for Giroud and Barkley, while United start Victor Lindelof and Juan Mata for Eric Bailly and Scott McTominay.

It's a more attacking Manchester United side than I expected - Mata, Rashford, Martial and Lukaku all start.

    Full team news to come.

Chelsea are at full tilt. I think they’re playing the best stuff they’ll play all season. I feel the same about Arsenal – I don’t expect them to finish in the top four. Long term Spurs don’t have the depth for a title race.

I think long-term it will be a two-horse race - Manchester City and Liverpool.

Against Newcastle, Man United did brilliantly to comeback and dig out a win. There were holes in their performance in both halves but having that finish is sometimes more important than how you win.

The good feeling and spirit among the players trumps and tactical changes and formation.

It becomes more a show of how much they are together, how much they want to win and are committed to the process. Hopefully that will carry over and make a great spectacle today.

RegularJon: If anyone is willing to splash the cash that might entice Chelsea to sell Hazard (it would be a heck of a lot), then it’s Ed Woodward. Get it done! Although it’ll never happen, just like us winning at the Bridge in the next 100 years

Nitin C: Eden Hazard might very well be the best player in the world right now. As a United fan it would be a dream.

  13. 'Sacking Mourinho would be traumatic'published at 11:18 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

    Sam Wallace

I sense a bit of determination about Man United – which may be a consequence of the stories in the media – to make this a success. They don’t want the trauma of another sacking. The impact of the departure of David Moyes and Louis van Gaal is underestimated.

It reflects badly on the hierarchy. Ed Woodward is all powerful, but he also had a reputation he wants to defended. Constantly sacking managers reflects badly, it is an admission of a mistake.

I think he will go with a very Mourinho style and try to keep it tight. If you concede a goal or two early, then they could get a hiding. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes with almost five at the back.

Defensively they look at odds all over the pitch. He can’t keep shuffling things and hoping something clicks. Partnerships take time to form but he’s changing things during games.

The players have to step up and deliver and take the heat off the manager. Even if it's just going back to basics and working their socks off. You see the cracks in the interviews. There's rarely a smile anymore.

Jose Mourinho "would love" to sign Eden Hazard for Manchester United but knows it would be impossible because "Chelsea are led by intelligent people".

Hazard, 27, won the Premier League under Mourinho during the manager's second spell at Chelsea in 2015.

The forward had said he wanted to work with Mourinho again in an interview with Belgian newspaper HLN , externalon Saturday.

"We had a good relationship, we were champions together, so I think the feelings are good," Mourinho said.

"History says that when Eden Hazard is the best player in the Premier League, Chelsea is the champion.

"It happened with me, it happened with Antonio [Conte, in 2017]. The season is still in the beginning of course but, if he is the best player of the Premier League until now, which I think he is, Chelsea is top of the league because he's the kind of player who can make a huge difference.

"I would love to have him in Manchester United but I don't think Chelsea will sell him to Manchester United."
