Eden Hazard on the ball. he's tripled up on by men in red. He still gets into the area, finds Ngolo Kante in the D but he can't produce on this occasion.

Hazard then puts in a telling low cross and Luke Shaw puts it out for a corner. Ashley Young has a job on today...

At (about) this point in their last game Manchester United were 2-0 down to Newcastle and had hauled off a centre-half. Much better showing so far today in the autumn sun.

DeathApeDisco: For all the talent Man Utd have, the real issue under Mourinho is they play a very basic 4-3-3 as Chelsea did in 2004/5. Mata is the only one with the intelligence to then improvise from that base, the others don't take initiative.

Anthony Martial then gets into the penalty area and wins a corner. United's tails are up...

  5. CLOSE!published at 16 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

United want a booking now as Mateo Kovacic slides into Nemanja Matic but the Croatian is let off with a Mike Dean chat. Ashley Young seems confused by that one.

In comes the free-kick, Chris Smalling wins it, Luke Shaw then finds Romelu Lukaku, unmarked about 10 yards out - and he heads it well wide!

    A chance, that.

Not every foul has to be a booking...

A better few minutes for the visitors though.

That's a very harsh yellow card.

He's very high up the pitch but maybe it's because it's Nemanja Matic's second foul and both of them have tallied up to a yellow.

  8. Man Utd fans show support for Mourinhopublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 20 October 2018

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Stamford Bridge

Loud chanting of Jose Mourinho's name in the Manchester United section here at Stamford Bridge - the man himself responds with an under-stated wave.

Very vocal support for the Manchester United manager from their fans.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 11 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

It may have been a more attacking line-up on paper from Manchester United than we were expecting but it's a familiar set-up, nine men behind the ball for large periods. And that's why - Eden Hazard loses the ball and it just needs one pass to send Marcus Rashford screaming down the wing. He has men over but his pass is not the best, and then he loses out to Jorginho with a second chance.

Nemanja Matic trips Hazard and he's in the book - that's soft!

Willian is the man to take the free-kick but he leans back and skies it. Hard to get it up and down from there...

That's one way to stop him! Chelsea whip the ball crossfield to Eden Hazard, Ashley Young just launches himself at the Belgian and clobbers him in the chest. Foul.

Hazard then gets the free-kick quickly, skips by one man and is tripped by Nemanja Matic.

Hazard warming up but this is a free-kick 19 yards out...

A worrying start for Manchester United, Chelsea are getting past them with ease.

Edin Hazard, Willian and Alvaro Morata are going to put balls into the United box.

United are dropping deep now, and it looks like a 4-3-2-1 formation for them.

Juan Mata has started well for United though, a few lovely touches already from the former Chelsea favourite. David Moyes' best call at United to sign him?

Manchester United have made 10 passes. Chelsea 56.

  15. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

Chelsea now with a sustained, controlled spell of pressure, a cross comes in from the right and it's a good one but Alvaro Morata is pinged for a foul on Chris Smalling. That cross did come in very easily mind...

Well that is a very clear sign as to what the Chelsea fans think of Eden Hazard. The blue banner with Hazard sliding on his knees was paraded across the lower tier of the Matthew Harding Stand just before kick off.

Chelsea clear that corner and then United look a bit fragile on the break. Luke Shaw, lucrative new contract maybe still in his back pocket, is skinned easily by Willian, his cross/shot is cleared out and there's half a chance for Mateo Kovacic but he scuffs his shot from the edge of the area.

United are going to press the ball.

Marcus Rashford on the right wing, showing that electric pace but Dave Luiz wheels over well to make a sliding tackle. And United win a corner early doors.

    Chelsea 0-0 Man Utd

There doesn't appear to be any surprise tactical gremlins to the Manchester United line-up. It's a 4-2-3-1 with Juan Mata in the hole.
