Everyone keeps on banging about VAR but I would like to go back to the time when people just accepted the referee decision.

    Josh Harris, Stapleford

There was a time when that happened?!

My personal view on VAR is the same as Johnny's but I know many of you disagree!

Johnny: What generates the buzz and interest in football is competitive games in which beautiful football is played by the best footballers we’ve ever seen all in an arena where the atmosphere is positively electric. Not a missed offside goal or free-kick.

Bournemouth had a couple of decent spells but Liverpool have controlled this so far. 1-0 is probably a fair score but unfair in the way it came about.

  6. 'Salah offside tough to spot'published at 13:21 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool

    Steve Sidwell
Brighton coach on BBC Radio 5 live

The goal really took the stuffing out of Bournemouth, but it's been a great first half.

Salah was offside, I have seen the replay, but in real-time that's a really hard one to spot.

They've had their chances Bournemouth, Eddie Howe will be pleased with that and he'll be telling his players to just stay in the game. Stay in it, and they have a chance.

  7. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool

Applause from the home fans as the half-time whistle comes but it's job done so far from Liverpool, with a little bit of help.

  8. Huge leap from Alissonpublished at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool

    Steve Sidwell
Brighton coach on BBC Radio 5 live

I can see what James Milner is doing there, he's tried a high left-foot pass to Robertson but the wind has caught it.

I have to say - what a header that is from Alisson! What a leap that is.

Lewis: In the space of less than 72 hours - VAR would have sorted out a stonewall penalty at Wolves, disallowed a handball goal at West Bromwich and a stonewall offside at Bournemouth. You can see why Liverpool don't want it introduced...

Joe: Son's dive, Herrera offside, Salah offside etc. There won't be any goals when VAR is introduced

Crikey. Out of nowhere James Milner puts his team in danger by slicing a cross-field pass high into his own penalty area.

Alisson leaps like Virgil van Dijk to tower above Joshua King and head the ball away but clatters King in the process.

The physio jogs on but it looks like King will be OK.

All those calling for VAR. The contentious decisions are exactly what generates the buzz and interest in football. All teams get the rub of the green and all teams are the victims of poor decisions. This "little team" narrative is just confirmation bias.

  13. Salah's still got itpublished at 13:10 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool

Since the start of last season, Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in 11 more goals than any other player in the Premier League.

    That's 40 goals and 14 assists.

Alisson gets in a decent punch to clear before Joshua King is flagged offside. The conditions aren't easy for goalkeeping. The surface is slippery and the wind is gusting. Alisson tries to spring a counter-attack with a long kick to Salah but it drifts out of play.

  16. Southgate the unlucky omen?published at 13:06 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool

    Mark Mitchener
    BBC Sport at Vitality Stadium

England boss Gareth Southgate, who's watching from the Main Stand, has been far from a lucky omen for Bournemouth - despite capping their goal hero Callum Wilson, who misses out with injury today.

Southgate attended the Cherries' 4-1 loss at Huddersfield last season and their 4-0 thumping at Burnley in September - their heaviest defeat of this term.

Is that a decent chance? I think so. The ball is swung in high from Bournemouth and eventually it falls to Nathan Ake at the back post but he messes his volley up. In fairness there were two players jumping for the ball in front of him that have probably put him off.

  18. 'Cherries forcing final pass'published at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 8 December 2018

    Bournemouth 0-1 Liverpool

    Steve Sidwell
Brighton coach on BBC Radio 5 live

That there is the difference between the two sides so far - Bournemouth are trying to force the final pass and end up losing the ball, whereas Liverpool are finding joy through building-up gradually.

Fi3ld: VAR please... seriously it's 2018... just bring it in now. Bournemouth now have a huge uphill task. Can't watch any game without a big decision being wrong.

Isaac: VAR really can't come in soon enough. We've had error after error after error from the officials this season across the whole league...
