Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane on Sky Sports: "Paul Pogba's days are numbered, they won't sell him in January but he'll move on. It's no big deal, he's left United before.

"If you came down from the moon today and knew nothing about football you'd say United are an average Premier League side. Nothing more. They are Manchester United of the 1980s, they can be a decent cup team."

Two weeks ago I said give the title to City. I think they're that good. I still think City will win it but Liverpool are still unbeaten after 17 games. Incredible!

A plus-30 goal difference, the best defensive record in the Premier League - can Tottenham make a challenge? I'm not sure they can. Chelsea? No.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho on Sky Sports asked if he can "fix" their current situation: "What do you mean by fix? Win the title? Of course not.

"We can still finish fourth. It's not easy. For sure we are going to finish in the top six. Best we can get is fourth. Now we look to the fifth and then later the fourth."

"Are the players playing for you?"

"Are you calling the players dishonest? I believe they are honest. You believe they are dishonest. Players give maximum every day, every minute. If the players don't do the maximum then you call them dishonest.

"The players on the pitch gave everything. We can't compare the intensity and physicality of Liverpool. In spite of that were were in the game until we conceded the third goal."

  6. 'We couldn't cope with their fantastic intensity'published at 18:09 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Liverpool 3-1 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on Sky Sports: "They are the strong team, but it's hard to concede two goals in the moment we conceded and the way the goals happened.

"Our difficult moment was the first 20 minutes. We couldn't cope with their fantastic intensity and pressing, but then we were quite calm and it was controlled.

"They became really frustrated when their centre-backs came forwards and fired shots into the stands - that was the period when it was more in control.

"There were two easy goals for Shaqiri and because of the deflections there was no chance.

"If you speak about fortunate you speak about their second and third goals."

  7. 'We dominated'published at 18:08 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

Sadio Mane spekaing to Sky Sports: "We played great football today, we created many chances and deserved to win.

"We never gave up, everyone was more focused than ever."

Virgil van Dijk: "It was a fully deserved victory, we had the bigger chances.

"They were pretty dangerous sometimes on the break. In the first-half we were going a lot through the middle, but they were wining balls and dangerous at times.

"But we dominated the game, we were prepared, we were ready for the fight."

Let's talk how good Liverpool are though, magnificent. It's a two-horse race for me - Liverpool and Man City.

They had a great win in midweek. They've been energetic and dynamic. They've got a plan, they've got an idea, they've got a system.

Liverpool and City are on a different planet, they're a bit like Messi and Ronaldo.

There can be no excuses now. They've spent plenty of money, they've brought players into the club, you've got over £100m on the bench.

They're all good players, far better than I ever was. People say I'm bitter because I got released by them. Nonsense.

I'm commenting on what I've seen over the years and Manchester United have been magnificent, a joy to watch - Scholes, Ferdinand, Robson, Keane, Van Nistelrooy, Rooney, Beckham, Giggs. Look now, look now.

Karl Bristow: Sevilla was the worst I've felt as a United fan. Mourinho should have gone after the most abject performance I've seen. This comes close. We look devoid of confidence and any clue. He needs to go now. It's got too much. There's no recovering from that.

Shaqiri - what a bargain at £13m. Title-winning sides need match-winners on the bench, something Liverpool have long lacked. Klopp has improved the starting XI but more importantly built a quality squad with strength in depth.
