    Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd

Performances like this make me think that Chelsea knew what they were doing after all when they agreed to let Nemanja Matic leave. He may have been very good for Manchester United when he first joined but he's a horse and cart in an automobile world now. Really lacking in pace and mobility.

Sadio Mane breezes past him but the move ends with Dejan Lovren shooting from 40 yards. You can fill in the blanks with that one.

The tempo is down 20% from the first half, bitty stuff in midfield now. Is it going to end 1-1?

Another good save from David de Gea, proving once again why he's the best goalkeeper in the world.

Eric Bailly landed from high on his side/back. Looks nasty but he's going to carry on, I think. United clear the eventual corner without him.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 52 mins

    Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd

Fabinho has half a sniff at the far post, wins his header well but after nodding it down it's well cleared. And that's a great save!

Roberto Firmino somehow gets out of a forest of players and toepokes a shot into the corner - David de Gea makes a fine one-handed save. Eric Bailly hurt himself in the build-up, a real awkward landing.

He gets on before Paul Pogba, anyway.

This could be a fascinating half as United seem more open now. More of a threat at both ends. Sadio Mane into the area, stands up a dangerous cross but Matteo Darmian is alert to head it clear from right under the crossbar.

Quango: Who'd have though a few years ago that Marouane Fellaini would be such a key player for United. He was a laughing stock, now he's a regular saviour.

    Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd

Fine play from Marcus Rashford on the left, he gets away from Virgil van Dijk which is more than most can say this season. He looks up and puts a low ball across the goalmouth but there's nobody there to sweep it in.

Ashley Young then defends well at the other end to cut out Nathaniel Clyne. United have gone 4-3-3 now.

People have short memories. Alisson was our mid-week hero... We're five-sixths through an enormous week in our season. And I reckon we're in good shape. Mistakes will always happen. And it's at such time players need the most support. Time to kick on and end this thing in style.

Here come the sides, and here comes the change - Marouane Fellaini replaces Diogo Dalot. A bit of a tweak coming up.

PJ: Herrera needs to step up more into the midfield where he's actually supposed to be playing and stop dropping so deep into the defence. He needs to put some pressure on the Liverpool midfielders, they are too comfortable on the ball!

Omar: Mane has the potential to be one of the best in the world if he improves his often poor decision making. Brilliant goal though.

  16. 'United had absolutely nothing'published at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Liverpool 1-1 Man Utd

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City & Wales midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

Liverpool should have been two or three up. I've never seen such a poor display from Manchester United - up until their goal. They were kicking it out of play, into empty spaces, they had no idea, no plan, poor direction. They had nothing, absolutely nothing.

But goals change games. They grew in confidence, they wanted the ball more, and Liverpool took their foot off the gas.

Noel Fitzpatrick: Alisson gains us far more points than he costs us so won't say a word against him. We just have to keep doing what we are doing. The game is 100mph but Salah looks a bit off the pace...cue him popping up with the winner!!

Mahesh: People say Fabinho runs like Gerrard, maybe he needs to put Gerrard's shooting boots on to become the perfect player for Liverpool.

  19. 'Alonso should have been on a yellow before his tackle'published at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Brighton 1-2 Chelsea

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Chris Hughton on BBC's Match of the Day: "We had too much to do. We were up against a very talented Chelsea team.

"They had two chances in the first half and scored two goals. We started the game well but you can't give them the leg up by going behind.

"Then you have to have a response in the second half which we did in the second half.

"If we get the one goal then anything can happen. I can't fault the effort our players put in."

On Marcos Alonso's tackle on Solly March: "Some refs would have give it [a red]. But Alonso should have been on a yellow anyway - when he pulled back Anthony Knockaert. He should have been on a yellow before the incident."

  20. 'We earned the crowd's support'published at 16:52 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2018

    Southampton 3-2 Arsenal

    Southampton

Also to Match of the Day, Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "You have to look for the goals. It's not good enough to be level, you have to go over that.

"In the last 10 minutes Arsenal were pushing for the third goal but it gave us a chance on the counter-attack with Shane Long and other players,.

"It was a bit unlucky to go 2-2 but we had a stable defence and I think we had more chances so we deserved the win. The whole team was amazing.

"It's only the first step, we'll try to keep working and keep improving."
