  1. 'There's no self-pride'published at 11:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2018

Cardiff v Man Utd (17:30 GMT)

    Paul Ince
Former Man Utd midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

    On Roy Keane quotes...

I can understand what he’s saying. We had five years together at Old Trafford. Everyone fell out with Sir Alex but when you got out onto the pitch it was about those 11 players on that pitch and you performed and showed pride in your performance.

We haven’t seen that with Man Utd. There’s no self-pride. But you’ve got to understand the game’s changed. We had characters, leaders, men.

To be fair, when I first took over at Blackburn manager I expected players to be like I was and the ones I played with. When I walked through the door, I didn’t recognise the players at all.

Some players would walk in with a bag in their hand like a suitcase. I’d ask what they were doing and they said ‘oh I’ve got a business meeting this afternoon’. I was thinking you can’t trap a bag of cement and you’ve got a business meeting.

  2. 'Man Utd should not be appointing a caretaker'published at 11:13 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2018

Cardiff v Man Utd (17:30 GMT)

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

I don’t believe Manchester United have done the right thing. You’re Manchester United, you’re arguably the biggest club in world football and you’re going to bring in a caretaker manager to fill a void for four months. Go and get Mauricio Pochettino.

If you want Pochettino or Zinedine Zidane or whoever, build your philosophy now for the next 10 years.

You’re Manchester United, you don’t have short-term fixes at Manchester United. There’s no point sitting there for three months and just letting the season pass by.

He [Pochettino] could become the first big-money signing manager. Go and make a statement. There’s players who don’t want to leave clubs at certain times but they get a phone call and then their heads are turned.

  3. Players got away with murder - Keanepublished at 11:11 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2018

Cardiff v Man Utd (17:30 GMT)

The Manchester United players' performances will be watched closely later.

Former Red Devils midfielder Roy Keane says some of the Man Utd squad "got away with murder" under Jose Mourinho.

He says they "threw him under the bus."

Cardiff left-back Joe Bennett has not trained this week because of a hip problem and is doubtful for this game.

A couple of unnamed players are also nursing "little niggles", according to manager Neil Warnock.

Manchester United are set to be without Romelu Lukaku, who has reportedly been given compassionate leave.

Alexis Sanchez remains absent with a hamstring problem, while Chris Smalling, who was injured in the warm-up at Liverpool, is a doubt.

New caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must decide whether to recall midfielder Paul Pogba and forward Anthony Martial, both of whom were substitutes in the defeat at Anfield.

  6. 'Ozil misses Sanchez'published at 11:06 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2018

    Arsenal v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

    Paul Ince
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

Mesut Ozil's situation surprises me really because not only was he given the big contract, he was given the captain’s armband. I watched him against Leicester and he was outstanding, world class.

But since then he seems to have gone backwards. He looks like another player. Like Paul Pogba at Manchester United, I don’t understand why he’s not playing, he’s Arsenal’s outstanding player.

Alexis Sanchez going to Man Utd was a major factor. When they played together, they knew what the other one was going to do and played off each other. Losing Sanchez has affected him.

  7. 'Ozil suffering because of fans'published at 11:04 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2018

    Arsenal v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 live

It’s like Mesut Ozil needs willing runners around him – the likes of Blaise Matuidi and that type of player. Players running round doing the work and he’s the creative one on the ball.

I think he does have a future for Arsenal.

Players lose confidence and form, even world class players. He seems to be suffering because the fans are on his back.

Jack Wilshere will again be absent with the ankle injury that has caused him to miss West Ham's last three matches.

Forward Lucas Perez could return from a foot problem but the Hammers are still without several injured key players, including Marko Arnautovic, Andriy Yarmolenko and Manuel Lanzini.

Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue will return after a three-match ban.

However, Andre Gray, Will Hughes, Adalberto Penaranda, and Sebastian Prodl remain sidelined with injury.

    Huddersfield v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

Huddersfield welcome back striker Steve Mounie following his three-game ban.

Rajiv van La Para returned to training this week after a back strain but Aaron Mooy, Danny Williams, Tommy Smith and Abdelhamid Sabiri are all still out.

Southampton have no fresh injury concerns and hope several players will be available to return.

Jack Stephens, Cedric Soares, Mario Lemina, Nathan Redmond and Michael Obafemi all face fitness tests, but Ryan Bertrand is a certain non-starter.

Chelsea's Alvaro Morata is back in training after a knee injury but head coach Maurizio Sarri could again choose to use Eden Hazard as a false nine.

Andreas Christensen is out with a minor hamstring problem.

Leicester forward Jamie Vardy should return from the groin injury that kept him out of the midweek League Cup exit.

Ben Chilwell could also play after a two-match absence with a knee injury but Wilfred Ndidi is a doubt because of a similar problem.

Bournemouth forward Callum Wilson should be fit after suffering no ill effects from his midweek comeback from a hamstring injury.

Tyrone Mings is expected to overcome a hip injury but captain Simon Francis is doubtful with an ongoing groin problem.

Brighton remain without Shane Duffy, who is completing a three-match ban.

Jose Izquierdo is still sidelined with a knee injury while fellow winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh remains out with a hamstring problem.

Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero have shown no ill-effects from starting in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday after lengthy injuries.

Danilo is available once again but David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Benjamin Mendy are all still absent.

Crystal Palace will recall Wilfried Zaha and James Tomkins, who were both suspended last week.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is also fit after he missed the Eagles' victory over Leicester because of a back spasm.

  19. 'Arsenal look jaded'published at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2018

    Arsenal v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator

Arsenal's long unbeaten run will be consigned to the distant past if they lose. A third defeat in a row in all competitions would endanger their top four hopes.

One or two looked jaded against Spurs in the Carabao Cup and the defence is still too easily sliced apart.

But they're unbeaten in 10 against Burnley and they haven't lost against a side in the bottom three in 11 years.

Privately Sean Dyche will know they're deep in trouble. Constantly punching above their weight has taken its toll. Opposition sides have worked them out.

I think they'll stay up. But Arsenal's firepower should win this.

    Arsenal v Burnley (12:30 GMT)

Arsenal's defensive crisis looks set to continue for the visit of Burnley, with Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Konstantinos Mavropanos all sidelined.

Shkodran Mustafi is also ruled out and Henrikh Mkhitaryan is a doubt, but Sead Kolasinac will be assessed and Sokratis is available after suspension.

Burnley winger Aaron Lennon has had a knee operation, ruling him out until the New Year.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady could be fit after injuries.
