Sulaimon Adelekan: As an Arsenal fan I would love to bring back Thierry Henry to coach the Gunners, definitely after Unai Emery's reign. Though he isn't having it easy at Monaco, Arsenal loves him

Solskjaer's playing CV is unquestionable - a cabinet full of trophies and goals in the biggest games for Manchester United, including that goal in the German's net back in 1999.

His managerial record is less impressive. He has won league titles in Norway with Molde but his previous spell in English football ended with relegation with Cardiff.

After appointing the Norwegian, Ed Woodward, United's executive vice-chairman, said: "Ole is a club legend with huge experience, both on the pitch and in coaching roles.

"His history at Manchester United means he lives and breathes the culture here and everyone at the club is delighted to have him and [assistant manager] Mike Phelan back.

"We are confident they will unite the players and the fans as we head into the second half of the season."

Can he succeed this season where the Special One has failed?

So it is clear Solskjaer's time as a player at United has played a big part in him getting the job as interim manager.

But what if a similar situation arose at your club?

If your team needed a new manager and the only option was to appoint a former player then which club legend would you choose and why?

And the man Manchester United have turned to lead them into a new era is club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer., for now at least

The former striker has been plucked from his job in his home country of Norway to come and manage one of the biggest clubs in the world for the rest of the season.

He says he would love to have the role for longer than that but that will come down to results, starting with today's match at Cardiff.

There's no question what the biggest story of the week has been. Jose Mourinho's sacking was in some way expected but it still caused a shock when it arrived on Tuesday.

The Portuguese departed with United sixth in the table, 19 points behind leaders Liverpool.

United have won just one of their last six Premier League games. Will Mourinho's departure signal the start of an improvement at Old Trafford?

14th-placed Newcastle play bottom club Fulham.

Burnley and Cardiff play Arsenal and Manchester United respectively, looking for a crucial surprise win.

There's no Christmas cheer for Jose Mourinho.

His time at Manchester United is over. For now at least one of the club's favourite sons is at the helm.

Today Ole Gunner Solskjaer manages his former club for the first time on a bumper Saturday of Premier League football.

It's the day the festive period really begins...

I'll give it to someone special...
