Everton manager Marco Silva tells BBC Sport's Conor McNamara that the game would have been different had Dominic Calvert-Lewin not had a goal ruled out for 2-0.

"I’m not here to find an easy excuse. It would have been 2-0, it [the alleged foul] doesn’t look anything special. I don’t know if it would have been the same in the other box.

"A second goal for us would be different for sure. In that moment the referee saw something I did not see. I can’t see anything there.

"The first goal we conceded is impossible. It [defensive error] happened with our team in the last game. We have to realise why it happens so many times with us.

"We need some more luck. This afternoon we were more effective, we scored three goals – although the referee didn’t give the second. But the game wasn’t finished.

"After the mistake we made for 1-1, they were stronger and faster than us, more aggressive. We have to realise why. We made mistakes in important moments."

Marco Silva telling Sky Sports about who was at fault for Tottenham's first goal: "I'm not here to say one or the other. We win together and when we lose and make mistakes we have to be together too.

"Tottenham played faster than us and we have to look and realise why it happened, when we played the first 20 minutes so well before it went 1-1.

"When something like this happens we have to forget the top six and wins against them. We did so well in previous matches against them but we have to improve and when we play them again we have to be able to compete, nothing more."

  4. 'We kept making mistakes'published at 18:26 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2018

Everton manager Marco Silva talking to Sky Sports: "We feel really bad, as we should. We wanted to achieve something different and tried to give our fans different feelings.

"We started well and the second goal (disallowed goal) is a key moment in the game. The referee saw something there. Then after that we made a big, big mistake and gave them a moment to equalise.

"After that moment we have to keep our composure and shape, we have to keep playing in our way and being aggressive. But we kept making mistakes and you can't do that against a team like Tottenham. They played much faster."

As a Watford fan I can't help but admit we've got the better deal in Gracia over Silva. We are playing balanced and organised football which is enjoyable to watch instead of conceding goals like the rain falls in Everton's case. Wishing all of BBC sport's coverage team a Javi Xmas and Thank You for a 2018 of superb coverage.

More from Mauricio Pochettino to Sky Sports:

Are you in the title race?

"Liverpool and City are the two favourites to fight for the Premier League. We are in a good position. But there are a lot of games to play."

Why did Dele Alli come off?

"He didn’t feel a big problem. Maybe a little bit tired from Wednesday. I hope it’s not a big issue. It was a precaution."

Why is 2-6 a special scoreline today?

"It’s my present for my wife. We got married 26 years ago. And a fantastic way to celebrate tonight."

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to Sky Sports: "I’m so pleased, so happy. We came from a really tough game on Wednesday against Arsenal and today the team was so fresh with plenty of energy. We played very good football. It was fantastic. When you play that way you must be very proud.

“[Son has] massive quality. His finishes are unbelievable. It’s impossible to praise only him, we need to praise the whole team. The quality was amazing. Everton are a very good team. They scored and we were down in the score but the spirit was fantastic.

“That gives us an unbelievable feeling. It was so tough in the beginning. We dominated the 90 minutes and were much better than them. We have a very busy period but this is a fantastic way to start it."

Re Jon Spurling [17:58 GMT] it doesn’t confound logic looked at in the context of Tottenham’s recent history, in fact it shows the phenomenal job Pochettino has done to totally transform the culture of the club. And that football, regardless of trophies, should always be celebrated.

Everton's Seamus Coleman taking to Sky Sports: "We were looking forward to the game and to go 1-0 up was important, especially at home and it possibly should have been 2-0 through Dominic (Calvert-Lewin). It looked like there was nothing wrong with it.

"It was tough to come back. We gifted them a goal and then they showed a lot of quality, so credit to Tottenham, they were brilliant.

"At times our commitment wasn't there and that was disappointing. The goal affected us more than it should and we never got back into it."

On Spurs' first goal... "It's something you never like to see, we all make mistakes and there was a communication problem. But now we've got a big game coming up and need to get ourselves back on track."

Son Heung-min telling Sky Sports about his first goal: "It was a difficult angle, I just tried to hit the target and the goal came at a good time.

"Like Harry Kane said, we dominated from the start and created so many chances.

"We were unlucky to go 1-0 down but showed our character and mentality to come back and score six goals.

"We just have to focus on us now and go game by game. Then we will see what happens because it's a long race."

    Ex-Premier League striker James Scowcroft

It's been an unbelievable performance. Tottenham are right in this title race and they've got to believe it, they really have.

I wonder if they need to forego one of the competitions and focus on the league because I think they've got as good a chance as anybody (of winning it).

They haven't got the biggest squad but if they play like today - and they've been playing like this for a while now, they've won nine out of 11 away in the league - that is title-winning form.

Everton fans clapped them off, they know they've seen a good team here today.

  17. 'They wanted it more'published at 18:07 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2018

    Everton 2-6 Tottenham

    Everton

Everton captain Seamus Coleman on MOTD2: "From where I was it looked like a perfectly good goal from DCL and they equalised from our mishap in defence.

"We couldn't recover. They showed their quality and they outfought us. It looked like they wanted it more which shouldn't be the case, especially at Goodison.

"We didn't show enough commitment. We're 11th in the table. We need to get back on track very quickly."

Harry Kane speaking to Sky Sports: "It was massive. We knew it would be a tough game and we went 1-0 behind.

"After that we created some good chances and took them. Second half we dominated the ball and took our chances again."

In the title race? "Everybody's been talking about Liverpool and Manchester City, and we've been getting on with it and doing well, like we normally do.

"It's important we carry that on now. The games are coming thick and fast but they're games we can definitely win.

"We've had a good month and hopefully we can take that into January now - and February - and we'll see where we're at come April time."

It was Liverpool who won the double that season of course.
