Deldude: That was a striker’s goal. Give it up for N'Golo Kante
Crystal Palace 0-1 Chelsea
It will be interesting to see how Palace respond to going behind.
You would think they cannot remain in their rigid shape and they will have to commit more men forward.
Right on cue, striker Jordan Ayew appears to be warming up.

It was a brilliant run from the right straight into the centre, but N'Golo Kante still had a lot to do to hook the ball past Vicente Guaita. It was a moment of real quality to deliver the goal that this game needed.
There was a lovely weight on the pass to Kante from David Luiz, because there was not a lot of space in behind that Palace defence to exploit.
N'Golo Kante
Chelsea finally find a way through courtesy of a good finish from N'Golo Kante.
David Luiz - as he has been doing all afternoon - lofts the ball into the Palace area, and this time the French midfielder controls it on his chest before wrapping his left foot around the ball to beat Vicente Guaita.
The Palace keeper manages to get a hand to the ball but the shot is stuck with enough venom to trickle over the line.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Chelsea
The second half has started in a similar fashion to the first - Chelsea are dominating the ball in the middle of the field without finding a way through.

Kaine, London: Does anyone else not quite get what Jorginho does? Just seems to play lots of short and simple passes, then when he goes for a long-range pass or shot, it goes wrong.
Sam Harris: As good as Chelsea are at passing, they’re still a class or two below Manchester City and Liverpool. Makes you appreciate how exciting City and Liverpool are.

Here's a half time fact for those of you who love a stat:
This is the ninth time this season that Crystal Palace have been drawing 0-0 at half-time - they have failed to win on any of the previous eight occasions...

It has no been a classic. But it is going well for Roy Hodgson, he has set his team up to get a point, with a hope of nicking something more via the pace of Wilfried Zaha and the trickery of Andros Townsend.
You have to credit the hosts for their defensive solidity. It is effective. Is it entertaining? Not so much.

TitletownOtaku: Not much pressure on Palace this half. Defense has an air tight seal in that area. A goal will open them up & opportunities will be more plentiful. Come on you Blues!
Ash Williams: Chelsea have been so poor. Palace have done really well defensively.

Crystal Palace are not going to win any awards for their ambition in this first half. They are set up to suppress Chelsea and it is working well so far.
Perhaps the Palace fans, after seeing only five home goals this season, would like to see a bit more attacking intent though.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Chelsea
Three minutes of normal time remain at the end of the first half and Chelsea continue to enjoy large spells of possession.
But they are being restricted to balls over the top and Palace are defending well.

Yousuf Ali: The problem with Chelsea play is that no one makes a run in behind the opposition defense.
Mike Bell: Watching Premier League teams slog through December/January, albeit entertainingly; a quick glance at Italian Series A fixture list shows teams don't play again until 19 January 2019. And explains why their teams will have an edge in Champions League Knockout stage

Ross Barkley got the ball there in the tackle with Wilfried Zaha.
It was an important challenge and he got it just right.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Chelsea
Palace race down the other end and Wilfried Zaha's eyes light up as he tries to run onto a loose ball inside the Chelsea area, but Ross Barkley is on hand to lunge in and nick the ball away.
