  1. goal

GOAL - Man United 2-0 Bournemouthpublished at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Paul Pogba (33 mins)

    Pog-back.

Manchester United's record signing is jigging and dabbing up a storm in celebration.

Nothing too complicated about the goal. Paul Pogba times his run into the box perfectly and meets Ander Herrera's cross with a bullet header for his second goal of the game.

He also scored twice against Huddersfield on Boxing Day.

    Man Utd 1-0 Bournemouth

    John Williams
Former Bournemouth defender on BBC Radio Solent

Bournemouth have acquitted themselves well and Asmir Begovic has not had a save to make since United took the lead. The Cherries have grown into the game and had one or two crosses into the United box.

Coolisha: Pogba is a virus! Man Utd have a problem, because the moment the ballerina Pogba doesn’t like the manager the team will stop doing its job!!

KN: AFCB getting into the game. Very well-organised side and posing some attacking threats

babyboomer: For heaven's sake sign a centre half (or 2) that can head crosses coming in 6-10 yards from goal. Price shouldn't be an issue for the right man. Just don't let Woodward make the deal.

They have not had the best of the last five minutes but there is still an impudence and spontaneity to Manchester United's play in attack.

Anthony Martial gets his toe under the ball and scoops a pass into the box. Paul Pogba, extending those Inspector Gadget legs, cannot quite reach it as he attempts a first-time stab past Asmir Begovic.

Paul Pogba takes on an ambitious 25-yarder. Meatily hit, but straight into the arms of Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

What a great chance. Nathan Ake did well to get his head on it and I think it has hit David de Gea in the shoulder. How lucky can you get?

  7. CLOSE!published at 26 mins

    Man Utd 1-0 Bournemouth

Manchester United living dangerously in defence.

Nathan Ake gets up above Nemanja Matic at a corner and head powerfully for goal.

His downward nod is kept out by a combination of Ander Herrera's legs and David de Gea's right glove.

    Just about.

    Man Utd 1-0 Bournemouth

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Three members of Manchester United's back room team - Michael Carrick, Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna - were down on the touchline during that short break offering instruction to Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer did not make an appearance, which contrasts sharply with opposite number Eddie Howe who is virtually omnipresent in his technical area.

This is more like the pub car-park tear-up than the games of tactical chess that Jose Mourinho preferred to preside over.

Bournemouth are now in the ascendancy, swinging the punches.

Junior Stanislas chooses the wrong option as the Cherries break four on four against the United defence. His long-range effort trundles well wide.

Jordon Ibe's low cross skims through the Manchester United penalty area, but Callum Wilson has gone AWOL and there is no-one there to turn it in.

    Man Utd 1-0 Bournemouth

Bournemouth are keeping Callum Wilson high to offer a threat in behind the Manchester United defence.

They are struggling to get a foothold in the match though. United are cutting through midfield too easily at the moment.

Jesse Lingard very nearly links up with Paul Pogba on the edge of the Cherries' box.

  12. 'Hojbjerg's red card was the worst thing'published at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

    Southampton

Speaking to Match of the Day, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "The first 15-20 minutes we were not very good but we smelt a bit of sensation when we equalised. We saw that Man City is not that confident in the moment like they are when they win week after week. We tried to push ourselves back into the game and press a little bit earlier but we saw when they have time to turn they are dangerous.

"We gave the first goal away too easily and the ball went over a number of players in the box. At half time we thought about preparing the guys for a good second half but in the mind was also the next game against Chelsea.

"And then the worse thing happened in the red card for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg which is disappointing because he is one of the most important players in our team. In a game which is 3-1 and with only five minutes to go, you have to ask the use of such a tackle. He knows it was the wrong decision but it doesn’t help us in the moment."

Marcus Rashford is fully justifying the decision to start him ahead of Romelu Lukaku up front.

Quick, skilful and sharp as a tack.

His stinging half-volley deflects of Nathan Ake and...wide, with Asmir Begovic hopefully off balance.

Manchester United scored inside the first five minutes twice in 24 games under Jose Mourinho this season.

That goal means they have done it twice in three games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The opposition may not be the Premier League's best but it is inarguable that Solskjaer has made a difference to the way United play.

  18. 'It was important to win'published at 16:40 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola told BBC Match of the Day: "Yes it was important to win after two defeats and the players did what they had to do. If one team achieves 100 points and then the year after make 45 in the first round it is not all bad.

"We are doing well but the other team are possibly one of the strongest in Europe. Before 1-1 we played to score more, then they scored and the game was more equal but we carried on and scored the second goal. In previous games we did everything, and the first time the opponent arrived in our half they scored."

Asked if Kevin de Bruyne will be fit for the Liverpool match, Guardiola said: "We will see. Ilkay Gundogan yes but Kevin, we will see on Thursday. Of course it is a little bit more than three points because it is the team that is first."

  20. goal

GOAL - Man United 1-0 Bournemouthpublished at 16:34 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Paul Pogba

But it is all about Marcus Rashford...

The Manchester United striker chases wide, controlling the ball with his back to goal and penned in to the sideline.

He spins smartly, dabs the ball one side of the pursuing Nathan Ake, dodges round the other.

Diego Rico is up next. Sent to the stands with a delicious little flic-flac trick.

And finally a low cross that is perfect for Paul Pogba to stab home from about two yards.

"What a goal!" mouths Solskjaer on the bench.
