  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

A counter-attack as quick as simmered mercury from Manchester City and suddenly Riyad Mahrez is bearing down on Alex McCarthy in the Southampton goal.

McCarthy stands tall and Mahrez goes for blind power rather than cool-headed placement.

    A good save.

It was a good performance by Sergio Aguero although he had a quiet first 15 minutes. His movement was good enough but his team-mates just couldn't find him. He grew into it though with his goal.

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

Vincent Kompany would have got there at his 2012-peak.

The City captain lunges in on Mohamed Elyounoussi and sees yellow.

Jan Bednarek joins him shortly after for a pull of Raheem Sterling.

Three points, with room to spare, for both Manchester City and Burnley?

It has been a thankless task for Charlie Austin who has seen very little of the ball. Shane Long will bring some fresh legs up front for Southampton.

  10. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 15:41 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2018

    Southampton 1-3 Man City

Yan Valery looks to have got away with one there.

Raheem Sterling gets goalside and into the box ahead of Southampton's young French full-back. Valery's recovery challenge is a mess of limbs and I don't think any of them made contact with the ball.

    Should have been a penalty.

Southampton stretching every sinew to stay vaguely in the match.

Kayne Ramsey lunges in to try and cut out Raheem Sterling's low cross on a swift counter. He can't quite reach but James Ward-Prowse is on hand to block as Sergio Aguero attempts to turn in at the far post.

RJB: Completely agree, it was not a penalty. This myth that any faint touch equates to a foul is nonsense, falling over should not be rewarded. Also McCarthy is a great keeper and has made numerous class saves over the last two seasons.

Ash: The 2nd and 3rd City goals weren’t travelling at any pace. McCarthy HAS to do better. Making two good saves earlier means NOTHING if you can’t make the easy saves.
