  1. 'Expect more from Man City attackers'published at 20:36 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Manchester City's honesty and work rate has been brilliant, but you would expect more from the players with the ability they have got in the final third.

They have been in good situations and wasted it. The final-third decision making has been poor.

  2. Postpublished at 35 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

The home crowd are up, they keep forcing mistakes from Liverpool. There will be some tired legs out there.

Both sides' use of the benches could be key.

  3. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

So to recap, Liverpool are unlucky not to be ahead and Manchester City are lucky to still have 11 men.

The match is nicely poised though as City win a corner after a good run down the left from Leroy Sane.

Referee Anthony Taylor pings Bernardo Silva for a foul.

  4. 'Kompany very lucky'published at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

That could easily be a red card. He has left the ground and he is very lucky there, Vincent Kompany.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 32 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

The crowd don't like this, as Vincent Kompany is booked for sliding in on Mo Salah.

But that could have been red, you know! Kompany was airborne, both feet clearly off the deck. He caught Salah on the ankle.

  6. Postpublished at 30 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

An interesting, if not exhilarating, opening half hour. No break of the deadlock just yet.

  7. 'Space behind Liverpool defence'published at 20:29 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling need to set off earlier.

You have got to ask questions, there is a lot of space behind this back four of Liverpool - you have got to make the run.

  8. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

Chance! And a good one too. Fernandino picks the lock with another brilliant ball in behind the Liverpool defence. Raheem Sterling cuts it back for David Silva who, for once, doesn't have the best of touches and it means that he has to rush his shot.

Dan Middlehurst: I’ve got a sneaky suspicion that the John Stones clearance might be one of the defining moments of the season

Shane Daly: Only one team looks like they have the bottle to win the league. The hype train is gona derail Liverpool. If City win surely Spurs are back in it but nobody is talking about Spurs

Mark Taylor: Liverpool best team in Europe? Parking the bus and playing the break. Jose would be slated for this. Poor show!

  10. Postpublished at 27 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

It was 0-0 at Anfield in October, remember. Manchester City are looking good in midfield but haven't hurt Liverpool yet.

Sadio Mane has hit the post with the one clear chance so far, before John Stones just about cleared the rebound off the line.

  11. 'Liverpool playing on the break'published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

A great spell for Man City, they are moving the ball quicker and Liverpool are happy to get red shirts behind the ball and try and catch them on the break.

No shot - but the best bit of play yet from the champions. They craft half a yard of space for David Silva on the left of the goalmouth but his cutback is met by, you guessed it, Virgil van Dijk.

  13. How did Man City survive that?published at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

That was a real hairline decision as John Stones cleared it off the line but the manner in which Liverpool's attacking trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane sliced through Manchester City's defence will give real encouragement to Jurgen Klopp's side.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

This is Manchester City's longest wait for their first shot of a Premier League match at home since October 2016 (v Southampton - 38th minute).

David Jarvis: I know City fans get slated at times but that is some atmosphere.

Ash Williams: Liverpool attack once and City are all over the place. They’re so fragile.

Alex Haworth: Lovren walking a tightrope for 70 minutes now.

  16. Postpublished at 21 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

We've just seen the goalline technology replay - the whole ball was not over the line. A sliver of leather, about a single segment of a Terry's chocolate orange, prevents Liverpool from taking the lead.

That's why we have the technology, to be fair. The linesman would have had to guess.

  17. 'Shocking from Lovren'published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

That is shocking from Dejan Lovren - no attempt to play the ball. He is lucky to get a yellow, he deliberately took him out.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20 mins

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

If we didn't have goalline technology we'd be calling for it. That looked in to the naked eye.

Bad challenge! Dejan Lovren is booked for a hack at the knees of Sergio Aguero. Poor challenge that.

  19. 'How's that not gone in?'published at 20:19 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

You think it's in and then there's a scramble - how's that not gone in? I was waiting for the referee to get a signal to say that had crossed the line.

If you can get the ball to Salah, Mane and Firmino we know they can beat anybody.

They have not had a lot of service.

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

    How has that stayed out?!?!?!?

Liverpool so close to the opener. All it takes is one pas from Mo Salah to carve City open, Sadio Mane gets to it just ahead of Ederson and guides/scuffs a shot across goal.

It hits the inside of the post and bounces out, the clearance is then leathered against Ederson and nearly goes in for an own goal, but it's cleared by John Stones.

    That looks in!
