  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 63 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Bad goalkeeping, followed by good keeping from Ederson! All very unorthodox stuff. Grobbelaar-esque!

The City keeper comes for a free-kick and is never going to get anywhere near it, it's half headed out, Roberto Firmino has a shot acros goal and the keeper saves with his feet, sliding in.

All a bit of a mess but he kept it out.

  2. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Pep Guardiola barks an order to Bernardo Silva, who has been excellent this evening. To be four points off the lead without Kevin de Bruyne for more or less the whole season is not bad going is it...

The second goal in this game, if we get one, could be massive. It's not been a classic. But it could well be crucial.

Good football from Manchester City, changing it from left to right, but Danilo's shot is a good two or three yards wide.

  4. Man City with the impetuspublished at 21:17 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Manchester City are really trying to increase the tempo here with some serious pressing of Liverpool. There is still an air of anxiety around Etihad Stadium because of the knowledge that this Liverpool team can strike at any time.

  5. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool have not had a shot on target since the 20th minute. That has to change.

Danilo has a dig at the other end but it's always well wide of the target.

  6. Four-point leadpublished at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Worth another look at the table as it stands. If it stays at 1-0 to the hosts this is how the table would stand.

    Four points? Nothing.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 57 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

James Milner comes off, Fabinho on. Someone better educated than I will have to explain why some City fans boo Milner off.

A hard man to dislike, I would have thought.

  8. CLOSE!published at 56 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool cross, half cleared out to Trent Alexander-Arnold, he shoots from 20 yards...wide!

  9. Postpublished at 55 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

I wouldn't say Liverpool have nothing about them, but the champions do look comfortable enough at the moment. However, Liverpool cut City apart with one move in the first half and could do again.

  10. 'Not a penalty...'published at 21:12 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

There is arms on Raheem Sterling, but no - Andrew Robertson grabs hold of him, but I don't think Sterling would have got to the ball anyway.

I think Pep Guardiola will be delighted the way Manchester City have approached the second half.

Jurgen Klopp is going mad, Liverpool have nothing about them.

Full on semaphore on the sidelines from Jurgen Klopp. The cover of Help.

Furious hand waving, arm shaking. He's not happy at all. Fabinho is warming up.

  12. 'Liverpool front three off the pace'published at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 3 January 2019

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Bernardo Silva has been the best player on the park tonight.

The front three of Liverpool look a bit off the pace, leggy. Roberto Firmino has not been involved at all.

  13. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 52 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Sadio Mane does his best Leroy Sane impression down the left wing but his cross is cut out by Ederson. City come right down the other end, Raheem Sterling takes on Andrew Robertson and ends up on the floor.

    Penalty?

They both have arms around each other but the ball had gone...

Sean Macnamara: This game's not over and neither is the title fight - both will go to the wire. As a Liverpool fan I am not worried - Aguero has now irritated us and we will see a backlash in the 2nd half.

Kevin Taylor: We belt on about VAR which I know splits opinion, but if Hawkeye wasn’t getting used here the Lino would be getting pelters cos the naked eye says goal!

Eghosa Osunbor: Aguero is arguably the best striker in the world. What a strike!!!

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Sadio Mane shoves Raheem Sterling to the floor. How will City approach this half now they have the lead? It's a slow, patient start to the half from both sides.

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool start the half with a lengthy spell of possession. Both sides have had just on shot on target so far.

  19. KICK-OFFpublished at 45 mins

    Man City 1-0 Liverpool

No changes for either side - Danilo is fit to continue for Manchester City. He's wearing a Robbie Fowler nose strip actually, not seen them in years.

    Away we go!
