Wales scored as many goals in this game as they had in their previous 11 meetings with the Republic of Ireland combined (four).

Excluding own goals, this was the first time Wales have had four different goalscorers in a competitive game since a 4-0 win in March 2003 v Azerbaijan (Simon Davies, Gary Speed, John Hartson and Ryan Giggs).

Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill to Sky Sports: "We were well beaten. Difficult, yes. We were missing some key players but still well beaten.

"We've set out with good intentions. They scored early on and their second goal was a world class goal by a world-class player - 2-0 down after about 15 minutes sets you back. It was a hard evening.

"Wales have got some good players. We had a different side out to the one who won here last year. I think we're unable to be missing five or six Premier League players and put on a big show. We need to be at full strength. I'm not sure when the last time were at full strength was. But I can't remember us being this decimated before.

"We've got a game against Poland [on Sunday] - we'll try to utilise the squad if we can. We should try to be braver on the ball. Regardless of what division the players play in or their game-time for their club, you have to be ready for the step up."

lfcway: I'm not on aboard with this Uefa Nations League Just feels like international friendlies to me. Or Is it just me?

Richard: Yes. We won 4-1. Yes. We were deadly going forward. Yes. We produced the best attacking display since against Russia. But...Gunter lost his consecutive games streak so.... Giggs out.

Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman to Sky Sports: "We're proud people and wanted to put on a show for our travelling fans but it was anything but that.

"Wales were better than us all round. We were poor individually. We didn't give each other enough options on the ball. We have to be brave on the ball and we weren't. You've got to bring it onto the pitch and we didn't.

"We didn't know what to expect [from Wales] with a new manager. They played well but we gave them far too much respect."

We're hoping we'll be able to get some quotes from Martin O'Neill before we finish tonight. That's if he decides to speak to the media.

Wales goalscorer Tom Lawrence to Sky Sports: "It was a good one to play in, the fans were amazing and we put in a performance for them.

"We have a very good squad and I'm sure we'll have plenty more performances like that. I think we've done exactly what the gaffer wanted."

This was Wales' first ever competitive victory against the Republic of Ireland, having failed to win the previous four (D2 L2).

They had not won in the previous eight meetings, including friendlies. Their last win was 1992.

It was also their biggest margin of victory against the Republic, with their previous biggest being a 3-1 win back in February 1981.

That was a hard watch. We have been very good with our organisation but tonight we were anything but, and Wales were in cruise control in the second half.

It was a very easy victory for the hosts. Everything came good for Wales tonight but we were very poor and there were no positives we could take from that game.

One to watch for Wales fans. But maybe Irish supporters should just put a nice TV show on Netflix to relax before bed.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs to Sky Sports: "The lads were magnificent, some brilliant goals and great football. I can't be much happier.

"Ethan [Ampadu] is a talented player. Even more so than that, as a person, he's so balanced and mature for such a young player. He'll be a magnificent player.

"You don't get long [in an international break] but a big thank you to the staff and players. It's been intense as you don't get much time on the grass - some of them were playing on Sunday. The problem is now they've set the standard, they have to stay there.

"I enjoyed the performance and the goals but you always think you can do better. There were mistakes."

Gareth Bale is the first Wales player to ever score 30 international goals. Their previous top scorer was Ian Rush with 28.

Wales forward Gareth Bale on Sky Sports: "We had to put a good performance in, first home game of the new regime.

"We wanted to show what we're capable of and make a statement. We're looking to win every game and win the group. The manager is trying to stamp his own style on the team. There's a lot to improve on but there's a lot to enjoy."
