Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray admitted he and his players were left "flat" and "disappointed" with the officials after a 2-2 home draw against Nottingham Forest.

Rovers came from behind to lead but were denied all three points by a late Lewis Grabban penalty.

"Sometimes it seems a bit like sour grapes or looking for excuses," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"But early on in this game he [the referee] made some really strange decisions that just annoyed both benches and then he goes and awards a really soft penalty.

"I've watched it half a dozen times back and I can't see any contact and there's five men in his eye-line.

"The bigger picture for me is the team and their desire and effort. They put themselves out there and run and give you every single ounce of sweat and energy."

Brentford manager Dean Smith admitted his frustration at the end of an at times tempestuous 2-2 draw against Reading.

Seven yellow cards, including a second booking for Bees winger Said Benrahma towards full-time, saw the match spill over at times.

But Smith's side were able to profit from the lengthy stoppage time at the end of the 90 as Yoann Barbet headed an equaliser.

"I don't think I've ever been involved in a game like that where 10 minutes have been added on and an air ambulance hasn't arrived," Smith said.

"They came and slowed the game down and were allowed to do it by the referee, who booked no-one in the first half and then threw cards around like confetti in the second.

"I'm still trying to sort my head out after that game. It will be interesting watching it back but in the end, I have to praise my side's character in fighting to the end and then going looking for the winner.

    "That's the way we play."

    Well Stoke are absolutely reeling.

Defence has been a big problem for them all season and now - in a game they were totally controlling - they're trailing by two.

The sense of injustice is there for Gary Rowett's side though as replays show Richard Wood appeared to handle the ball as he won the header that Richie Towell tucked away for the second.

Birmingham City manager Garry Monk was delighted with the response of his side after they fell 2-0 down at home against struggling Ipswich.

Blues almost completed a stunning comeback when Lukas Jutkiewicz pulled them level and also headed against the crossbar.

"(My players had) fantastic character and belief," Monk told BBC Radio WM 95.6.

"You know being 2-0 down at half-time, not going to plan so to get that response is crucial.

"To get those two goals back and have chances to win it in 45 minutes, I'm very very happy with that character.

"The two goals we gave away were poor. It was very odd to see those two mistakes and they lead to two goals and you can't afford to do that."

Ipswich are still without a win despite going 2-0 ahead at Birmingham.

Paul Hurst saw his side's half-time advantage wiped out by a Lukas Jutkiewicz double in the second half and then Matthew Pennington's late red card had them hanging on for the point.

"You're certainly hopeful of getting the victory when you're 2-0 up," Hurst told BBC Radio Suffolk.

"We knew there would be pressure in the second half, but then they go and score pretty much from the restart with the first attack they have.

"That got the crowd back involved and gave their players a lift.

"A lot of feelings and incident today in this game, but in the end it's a first point away from home and we move a place up in the league."

So, while we take a breather in South Yorkshire, here's how it stands at the top of the Championship after today's results.

West Bromwich Albion are top of the tree after a fine 3-2 win over struggling Preston North End, leapfrogging Leeds United and Middlesbrough, who both drew this weekend.

Norwich City moved into the play-off places with a late win over Wigan Athletic.

It's still goalless at the break despite the visitors being in near-complete control.

Benik Afobe has hit the woodwork for Stoke and had a string of other chances.

Meanwhile Paul Warne's men have struggled to get out of their half.

That said the hosts did threaten when Ryan Manning almost took advantage of an error by Stoke keeper Jack Butland.

Nevertheless at 0-0 Rotherham are still in the game. Potters boss Gary Rowett, whose side had 69% possession in that half, will want to see his outfit be more clinical from now on.
