  1. The teams are out...published at 12:28 British Summer Time 29 September 2018

    Coventry v Sunderland (12:30 BST)

As the two teams make their way onto the playing surface at the Ricoh Arena, now seems a good time to run through the two sides.

Coventry have made just one change, with Tom Bayliss coming back in for Liam Kelly, while Sunderland boss Jack Ross has named an unchanged team.

Coventry City: Burge, Willis, Doyle, Chaplin, Brown, Hyam, Sterling, Clarke-Harris, Bayliss, Thomas, Shipley.

Subs: O'Brien, Davies, Kelly, Jones, Ogogo, Bakayoko, Andreu.

Sunderland: McLaughlin, Flanagan, Hume, Loovens, Baldwin, Cattermole, McGeouch, Gooch, Honeyman, Maguire, Maja.

Subs: Ruiter, Ozturk, Matthews, Oviedo, Power, McGeady, Sinclair.

    Coventry v Sunderland (12:30 BST)

Coventry City are no strangers to the lower reaches of the English Football League, having endured a recent stay in League Two.

However, the Sky Blues seem to be heading in the right direction at last after beating Exeter City in the play-off final in May and have since consolidated in mid-table with three wins from their opening nine games.

Sunderland, meanwhile, have also broken the losing habit and are third following a promising start to the campaign.

Will it actually turn out that this season offers up the only two meetings between the pair at this level?

Certain games between certain teams taking place in certain divisions just don't feel quite right... Y'know what I mean?

I'm thinking Leeds United against Nottingham Forest in League One in 2007-08 or Aston Villa against Newcastle United in the Championship in 2016-17.

I bring this up because I reckon Coventry City facing Sunderland in the third tier has that sort of feel to it.

These two teams have faced each other on 32 occasions in the league previously - 26 times in the top flight, but never this far down the pyramid.

  6. 'Judge us after 10 games'published at 12:15 British Summer Time 29 September 2018

That's what most managers say, right?

"Give us until 10 games in and then make your mind up, because that's when the league table starts to take shape. That's when we'll have a good idea of what sort of season we're in for."

Well, managers, it's nearly judgment time - after today, 68 of the 72 English Football League clubs will have played 10 games.

Welcome to our coverage of this afternoon's EFL action.
