    Best goalkeeper award

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is a finalist for the Men's Best Goalkeeper Award, told BBC Sport: "It's been a big year. It was my first World Cup. I'm slightly disappointed we didn't go further but I am proud of my country.

Father Peter Schmeichel added: "There were emotions on so many different levels. My country was so close to a quarter-final and it was near the end of the game when the penalty was awarded.

"It was incredible, absolutely incredible. I still had excitement in my body. I should have been cool, calm and collected.

"It was a really proud moment watching him in the World Cup. I'm even prouder standing next to him now. He is in the final three for the best goalkeepers in the world.

"That is something son! I really want him to win but if he doesn't it is already an incredible achievement."

  18. Ronaldo not at the awards tonightpublished at 19:24 British Summer Time 24 September 2018

Cristiano Ronaldo - who has won both Best Fifa awards so far - is nominated after a season in which he won his fifth Champions League title.

But he won't be at the ceremony tonight so if he does win, he won't be there to collect his trophy.

He scored 15 goals to ensure he would be top scorer in the competition for a sixth consecutive season - including a shared one in 2014-15.

He scored 44 goals in as many games in all competitions for Real Madrid - including 18 in his final 10 La Liga games.

Ronaldo then scored four times at the World Cup for Portugal to make him the second top scorer in international football history.

A £99.2m move to Juventus followed this summer, where he will bid to win the Champions League with a third different side.
