Great defending from Jake Buxton! He reads a cutback frm Riyad Mahrez well and ends up making a flying block to shut out Gabriel Jesus. Phil Foden then whistles a shot straight at Bradley Collins.

City scored seven goals in 40 minutes either side of the break. Any more for any more?

Ed: The way City are playing it doesn't matter who wins the other semifinal. Just give them the trophy

Uday: This is actually how to play against a lower league team. Play a strongish team and go for it.

Phillip: Oh Burton Albion, I feel for you. I remember watching your manager gracing Wembley in a League Cup final for Forest. Play for your pride. City are just on another planet.

  4. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 77 mins

    Man City 8 (Eight)-0 Burton

Strong run from David Templeton, a Burton sub who came on somewhere amongst that avalanche of goals, but he loses out.

And that's a great save! No, post! Almost nine as David Silva rolls the ball on to his right foot and thrashes a low shot against the outside of the post.

Into the last 15 minutes then.

City have had 11 shots on target. Which is not actually that many...

I have just spent the last 10 minutes scanning the record books to see if this is Manchester City's biggest League Cup win.

My colleague Chris Bevan has a sneaking feeling it is seven. I had not got better than that when Kyle Walker scored City's eighth.

What I do know for certain is Manchester City's biggest ever win is 10-1 against Huddersfield in 1987.

Their highest score is 11, against Lincoln, who got three - in 1895.

Man City lacking a little respect here now. They have done what is needed now have a little class and show Burton a little mercy...

I've gone with brackets for eight, not sure it's in the style guide. I don't think I've ever live texted a game with a team scoring eight.

Danilo is on for Kyle Walker, which means that Raheem Sterling won't get a run out.

    Man City 8-0 Burton

I half want to grab hold of the referee and ask him to call it a day now because City will keep scoring. City have been ruthless and it does not matter the side they are playing against. There are more goals in this yet and it's 8-0.

    Kyle Walker

This is getting silly now. Eight!

Emily, that poor Burton fan who left London at 13:00 GMT and has endured a nightmare on the M6, has just arrived in the ground.

It's eight as a cross from the left is side-footed home by Kyle Walker inside the penalty area. They are relentless.

Still 110 minutes left of this tie!

  12. "We want 10"published at 21:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 7-0 Burton

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

"We want 10" is the chant from the City fans. It could happen too.

They last got into double figures when they beat Huddersfield 10-1 in November 1987, when David White, Paul Stewart and Tony Adcock all got hat-tricks.

At the moment, Gabriel Jesus does not have to worry about whether he will get to keep the match ball.

  13. Postpublished at 69 mins

    Man City 7 (Seven)-0 Burton

The record win in a first leg of a League Cup semi-final is/was six goals.

The biggest win in any League Cup game is Liverpool v Fulham (10-0) in September 1986 and the same scoreline for West Ham v Bury in October 1983.

    Man City 7-0 Burton

    Dion Dublin

Oh so easy for City. They are keeping the ball moving and they are respecting Burton by playing the right way. Unfortunately for Burton, when City play the right away, they blow teams away.

We've still got a second leg to come, remember.

Gabriel Jesus has his fourth of the night with a tap in from Leroy Sane's low cross. Just cutting through Burton at ease.

    Gary Flintoff

Very interesting body language from Kevin de Bruyne after he was substituted. The Belgian went straight down the tunnel and did not look particularly happy. There was no warm embrace from his manager. In fact, there was no acknowledgment at all from Pep Guardiola.

  18. SITTER!published at 64 mins

    Man City 6-0 Burton

    Oh my word!

David Silva has just missed a sitter. What a chance for the brackets as Silva skies over the top after Leroy Sane put one on a plate for him.

  19. City's first City hat-trick since....published at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 6-0 Burton

    Simon Stone

Gabriel Jesus scores the first Manchester City hat-trick since his last one, against Shakhtar Donetsk in November.

That's 11 goals for the Brazilian now - only Sergio Aguero has got more.

  20. 'Second touch after coming on'published at 21:10 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 6-0 Burton

That is Phil Foden's second touch after coming on. The Burton keeper made a great save initially, but unfortunately, the pieces fell to Foden and he did the rest.
