  1. If you're wondering...published at 20:45 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 4-0 Burton

The largest margin of victory in the first leg of a League Cup semi-final is six goals. Man City v West Ham (6-0) in January 2014, and Oldham v West Ham (6-0) in February 1990.

West Ham don't come out of that stat well.

I must confess, once they checked that challenge on Gabriel Jesus, I'm not sure why a penalty wasn't awarded...

Andy: Can’t ask any more than that. Professional job done so far. Couple of goals second half to make sure and get KDB put back in bubble wrap

Liz: So Jesus gets kicked in the shin in the penalty area, goes down. We go to VAR. Mike Dean says no pen. I don't understand. Is it a dive? Why no yellow for Jesus then? I am all for VAR but it has to be used correctly.

Tony: He's clearly kicked on the shin but no penalty, yet a ghost tap on Cairney and a gust of wind on Salah, I don't get it

The aim of every Burton fan I spoke to before kick-off was to keep the tie alive until the second leg. City have pretty much killed it by half-time of the first.

It has been a professional performance from City. Burton have had a few chances but City are steady and I think there are more goals to come.

  7. A foot-cruncherpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

Burton fans stuck on the M6 might have got a raw deal tonight, but spare a thought for this player in a match between Trindade and Flamengo in the Brazilian Under-20 Copa Sao Paulo.

  8. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:34 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

A quarter of the way through this two-legged tie. Looking good for City.

Gabriel Jesus does take a kick on the shin but I'm not sure it is a penalty.

I have to laugh. Every time the ball falls to Oleksandr Zinchenko on the edge of the area, the Manchester City fans are urging him to shoot. I would imagine that will continue for the rest of the match.

  12. GREAT SAVE!published at 42 mins

    Man City 4-0 Burton

A very good save indeed! Leroy Sane's cross from the left is half cut out, Riyad Mahrez adjusts in mid air and flicks another effort on goal and Albion keeper Bradley Collins does eally well to tip it over.

Andrew: I think the winner of Spurs/Chelsea MIGHT just be playing City in the final.

Don: Another incorrect decision! VAR should be renamed VER ... Very Expensive Rubbish

That's 91 goals this season and counting for City - 21 clear of the next best in the country, which is Spurs. Then Doncaster.

I think Oleksandr Zinchenko actually meant this. He had a little look before the ball came to him. Great finish and great vision.

GOAL - Man City 4-0 Burtonpublished at 37 mins

    Oleksandr Zinchenko

    Fluke? Or fine finish?!

I can't really tell. It's Oleksandr Zinchenko's first goal for Manchester City as he clips a shot over the head of Bradley Collins and in from a full 25 yards. On the angle, he whipped across the ball and in.

It was either a poor cross or a very good measured strike indeed.

  19. Winning streakpublished at 20:23 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 3-0 Burton Albion

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

There was not too much reaction from Pep Guardiola to Manchester City's second goal.

A quick turn to shake the hand of assistant Mikel Arteta and then back to the edge of his technical area in time for the kick-off.

He had sat down again when Gabriel Jesus got his second and remained there throughout the VAR process.

You know that difficult patch City were supposed to be having?

Well, this is going to be four wins on the trot in the space of 11 days.

Safe to say Manchester City are back.

  20. "We're the famous Manchester City and we're going to Wembley"published at 20:22 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 3-0 Burton

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

In the short time between City's second and third goals, their fans enjoyed a quick chorus of "Wembley, Wembley, we're the famous Manchester City and we're going to Wembley".

There are still 120 minutes left in this tie, but I don't think you would find many people who would argue with them now.
