  1. goal

GOAL - Man City 6-0 Burtonpublished at 63 mins

    Phil Foden

Ilkay Gundogan set up four goals at the weekend and he's been absolutely superb again tonight. His pass is inch perfect to find Gabriel Jesus inside the area, he should probably have a fourth of the night but hits it straight at Bradley Collins. Sub Phil Foden is there to pick up the pieces and score with what was probably his second touch...

Kevin de Bruyne headed straight for the tunnel after coming off. We hope he is OK but he is probably a little frustrated at coming off, as any player should be.

Gabriel Jesus has now scored two hat-tricks at the Etihad Stadium, only Carlos Tevez (4) and Sergio Aguero (10) have netted more home trebles for Manchester City since their move away from Maine Road.

  6. City's birthday boy could eat his cake nowpublished at 21:06 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

Phil Foden has just come off the bench now but another highly-rated City teenager is already getting some action, although he has not exactly been busy.

Spanish centre-half Eric Garcia is making his home debut at the back alongside Nicolas Otamendi, and making only his second senior appearance. His first came in the last round against Leicester.

The former Barcelona academy player has already impressed Pep Guardiola - who said on the club's summer tour of the United States that Garcia was so calm he played like he is 24 or 25.

In fact Garcia has turned 18 today - the cake will have to wait until the final whistle but this game is so one-sided he could probably get stuck into it now if he wanted to.

That was like watching a dance. It was quick, quick, slow. Riyad Mahrez played a little one-two and it was a simple header for Gabriel Jesus.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 59 mins

    Man City 5-0 Burton

And that fifth goal was the sign for Phil Foden to come on and replace Kevin de Bruyne, who trudges straight down the tunnel.

  9. goal

GOAL - Man City 5-0 Burtonpublished at 57 mins

    Gabriel Jesus HAT-TRICK

What a player David Silva is. Again, it's a one-two between a winger and a midfielder as Riyad Mahrez swaps passes with Silva and stands up a lovely cross, which Gabriel Jesus meets with a powerful header into the back of the net.

    Hat-trick!

  10. 'Great watching De Bruyne'published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 4-0 Burton

    Dion Dublin
Ex-Aston Villa striker on BBC Radio 5 live

It is great watching Kevin de Bruyne on the ball because he doesn't play it to his teammates, he plays it for his teammates to move onto. He is forcing them to do what he wants them to do.

City yet to have a shot in the second half. Hard to motivate yourself in a situation like this, right?

    Man City 4-0 Burton

I do like the standards Pep Guardiola sets his team. Burton are a million miles away in terms of quality, but the respect they have for the game is very good to see. They lost the ball there and Leroy Sane and Oleksander Zinchenko both chased back to try and retrieve it.

  13. CLOSE!published at 52 mins

    Man City 4-0 Burton

Good approach play from Lucas Akins again, the League One Dirk Kuyt, as he drives down the left. his cutback finds Scott Fraser on the edge of the box, he's not got much on so tries to float a chip across the keeper from 18 yards - just over the top. Good attempt though.

Down to walking pace now at times as Ilkay Gundogan goes for another of those lob wedge passes over the top but this time dinks it right out of play. Phil Foden time?

Tough ask for Burton here. Do they go for it and try and get at least a goal for their travelling fans? Or throw a blanket over it and shut up shop?

That could have been a goal in the first minute there. Leroy Sane decided to take a touch when he could have played it across the face of goal for Gabriel Jesus to tap in.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 45 mins

Away we go then! When games are heavily one-sided at half time they are often dull and goalless in the second half. Let's hope not eh? Keep the entertainment coming...

  19. Forget the Quadruple - the Quintuple is on for Citypublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2019

    Man City 4-0 Burton

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

This is the third of four successive home games in January for City, which might explain some of the empty seats at the Etihad tonight. This is not a time of year when anyone is feeling particularly flush, let alone football fans, and City are also the only side in the country to have had two home cup ties this week - they played Rotherham in the FA Cup three days ago, in front of more than 52,000 supporters.

Mind you, City fans are probably used to this being a busy - and expensive - month. This is the second successive season where they started the new year trying to win all four major trophies. Last season they had to settle for winning two.

Four is clearly not enough for Pep Guardiola, though. They could feasibly end up with five if their Under-21 team continue their progress in the Checkatrade Trophy - they beat Rochdale to reach the quarter-finals this week.
