Pep Guardiola made the interesting admission that his Manchester City side are "not ready" to win the Champions League just yet.

"We are going to put in all effort to win this competition, but from what I saw last season we are not ready, that's what I feel," said Guardiola, who won the Champions League twice with Barcelona.

"That doesn't mean we are not going to try."

The side who amassed 100 points in the Premier League season are "not ready" then. What state that says the other English sides are in I'm not sure.

"We don't have that feeling, the feeling that the fans are pushing that we have to win the Champions League," added Guardiola.

"The players were on the bus for 45 minutes and I walked with a hoodie in the middle of the fans and nobody recognised me.

"But Juventus had the same kind of problem. We don't want to be punished again."

    They arrive like buses.

Bayern Munich swishing their tail like a horse who has just won the 3:20 at Wolverhampton.

Serge Gnabry breaks into the area, halts his defender and lays the ball for Rafinha on the overlap. He is unselfish and passes across the face, giving Robert Lewandowski the easiest of tap ins.

    Javi Martinez

A spell of Bayern Munich pressure is sustained from a corner kick and when Mats Hummels pulls a ball back to Arjen Robben. His shot is blocked and the ricochet skews into the air, allowing Javi Martinez to hook into the net.

    Pressure eased. Bingo.

Bayern have never lost in Greece.

In fact, they've never lost to a Greek side in a competitive game.

Like some decent Feta cheese, they feel right at home in the country.

Suddenly though, there's some pressure on them as the scrutiny following a poor run of results intensifies with every minute that they fail to grab the lead. Arjen Robben's cut-back is nearly turned into the net by an AEK defender...

AEK Athens gaffer Marinos Ouzounidis (above) is looking to take the Greek champions past the Champions League group stages for the first time.

This is their first run in the competition since 2006 and there should be a feel-good factor given they claimed a league title for the first time since 1994 last season.

Their entire squad have 53 Champions League appearances between them. Arjen Robben alone has 108.

That's what you call an experience gap.

Here's how Michy Batshuayi rounded the keeper to give Valencia the lead against Young Boys. The second period has just started, as is the case in Athens, where Bayern and AEK is goalless.

A reminder Bayern have one win in five, prompting criticism and pressure on their gaffer.

Christian Fassnacht almost draws Young Boys level with Valencia, his header is well held.
