Mike: Watching United tonight and also watching a manager deliberately and publicly dissing one of his players for missing a chance. His behaviour depresses me, it has no place at United, and it gives his players no support or confidence.

Matt: Looking at the Lyon kit today I keep on expecting Brooking to pass to Francis as the kit is like the World Cup kit of England from 1982!!

Luke: I think it's about time we dispelled with the myth that Rashford is a striker.

  2. CLOSE!published at 20:31 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Man Utd 0-0 Young Boys

United getting closer, but have still not found the net.

Jesse Lingard's shot from 20 yards out deflects off skipper Steve von Bergen, wrong-foots goalkeeper David von Ballmoos (WHAT A NAME) but rolls wide of the post.

  3. WHAT A MISS!published at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Lyon 0-0 Man City

Oh deary me, Lyon have missed another sitter.

Ferland Mendy bursts down the left and plays a pass into the box for Maxwel Cornet, 10 yards out in front of goal.

He just has to put his foot through it but decides to take a touch - a heavy one at that - and then slips over when taking his shot.

    Shocking.

As Chris said earlier (8.18pm), there are plenty of empty seats at Old Trafford tonight.

Whether that is reflected in the official attendance tonight is another matter though.

United include Champions League games in their season tickets so it could well be many of those who have stayed away have already paid.

Almost certainly though, corporate hospitality numbers will be down - and they are a big earner here.

  5. CLOSE!published at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Man Utd 0-0 Young Boys

Quick, fizzy play from Manchester United, they are great to watch when they play like this.

Just don't see it often enough.

Jesse Lingard flicks Chris Smalling's pass round the corner to the advancing Marcus Rashford, but the England striker drags his low shot wide.

  6. CLOSE!published at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Lyon 0-0 Man City

Not a bad effort from the Memphis Depay free-kick.

It was more than 30 yards out and the Dutchman laced it a wide of goal.

City goalkeeper Ederson was worried, he was scrambling to get to it.

Arjen Robben, remember him? Well the former Chelsea man has put Bayern Munich in front with a sensational goal against Benfica in Group E.

Vintage stuff from the winger who slaloms between three defenders and then finds the top corner.

Over in Group F Shakhtar have scored two goals in two minutes at Hoffenheim. Andrej Kramaric almost immediately pullde a goal back for the hosts though.

The Germans will be out if they lose and Lyon could face a very trick trip to the Ukraine on the final matchday.

As for Manchester City....as things stand they are going through this evening.

Manchester midfield enforcers into the book at the same time.

United's Nemanja Matic for a late challenge on Michel Aebischer, while City's Fernandinho is cautioned for a bodycheck on Memphis Depay.

Lovely passage of play from United.

Chris Smalling plays a cross-field pass to Luke Shaw, who drags a smart pass out wide to Anthony Martial.

The Frenchman backheels a return pass into the run of Shaw, but the linesman's flag is up.

It came to nothing, but that's more like it from Jose Mourinho's men.

  10. Not a slow start...published at 20:21 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Chris Sutton
Ex-Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I don't think we could accuse United of a slow start, it's been OK. The big chance fell to Marcus Rashford and we expected him to take that.

    Lyon 0-0 Man City

Lyon started sharply and should be ahead - but Memphis Depay grazed the ball with his studs instead of sticking his laces through it.

But Manchester City have began to get their foot on the ball more in the past few minutes, as our graphic shows.

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Lots of red seats visible around Old Trafford tonight, in every tier. Stuck in traffic, or are the United fans voting with their feet because of the lack of goals here so far this season?

The travelling Young Boys fans are still making all the noise too, even though their side have given them very little to shout about in the opening minutes.

  14. Postpublished at 20:17 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Man Utd 0-0 Young Boys

United getting plenty of players forward, there are five red shirts bursting forward in this move but Anthony Martial is too greedy when he has an easy pass and is dispossessed on the 18-yard line by visiting defender Mohamed Ali Camara.

Paul: We are so lucky to have Harry Kane in the national team. Rashford, Lindgard, Alli and Sterling are all unreliable finishers, especially in the big moments.

Sophie: Loads of empty seats at Old Trafford tonight which may be the most damning indictment of all of the state of this current United side.

Mike: Rashford a total waste, he shouldnt be playing for a club like Manchester United

  16. CLOSE!published at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Lyon 0-0 Man City

Another opportunity for Riyad Mahrez, but this time the Manchester City winger's shot from the edge of the box deflects wide.

    Just didn't catch it.

  17. CLOSE!published at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

Much quicker tempo to United's play, the home side playing some lovely football.

Jesse Lingard lays on his BFF Marcus Rashford, but the Englishman's low, left-footed shot is straight at the Young Boys goalkeeper.

  18. WHAT A MISS!published at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2018

    Lyon 0-0 Man City

He should have buried it and how he would have enjoyed it.

Maxwel Cornet plays a cross in from the right which former Manchester United winger Memphis Depay only has to get a touch on to convert, but gets his feet in a tangle and mis-cues instead. A shocker from the Dutchman.

City break to the other end and Riyad Mahrez's low drive is smother by goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

    End-to-end action in France.

    Lyon 0-0 Man City

City, in their Ziggy Stardust inspired kit, have not settled down in the opening 10 minutes in Lyon.

But they do have a free-kick in a dangerous position which skipper David Silva whips in, but is cleared by the first defender.

It is a long time since Manchester United reached the Champions League final.

The only player remaining from the 2011 final defeat by Barcelona at Wembley is Antonio Valencia.

But the Ecuadorian has been overtaken as the most experienced European campaigner in the current United squad.

That is now Chris Smalling, who makes his 60th European appearance for the club tonight.
