There's no Edin Dzeko for Roma tonight which means Patrik Schick comes into Eusebio Di Francesco's side.

Just to put that into perspective Dzeko has scored 22 goals in the Champions League, including five this season, whereas Schick is yet to open his account in Europe, having featured six times in the Champions League and twice in the Europa League.

Still at least the pre-match fruit is in place.....

Ajax look like they are heading into the knock-out stage of the Champions League for the first time in 13 years.....thanks to Dusan Tadic double.

His first, from the penalty spot, came after AEK's Croatian forward Marko Livaja handled inside the penalty area, to earn his second yellow card of the night and an early bath.

And former Southampton midfielder Tadic added a very simple second after being teed-up by Klaas Jan Huntelaar's pass.

Ajax currently top Group E with 11 points.

Allan: Someone please tell Sutton & Green to stop criticizing Jose. Tell them to find something positive to say or keep quiet!

What good can come out from criticising Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard? Gareth Southgate is able to do it but Jose Mourinho cannot for some reason. He seems to blame everyone else but himself. He bought Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. but now the big money signings cannot get a game.

It has been dull on the pitch at Old Trafford this season, but it hasn't been dull off it.

I don't think they have sold out the stadium and that tells you what the Man United fans think about the situation. I think they need a big performance tonight.

We are not quite at the stage where there are T-shirts outside Old Trafford saying ‘I was there when Romelu Lukaku scored’ but it has been an awfully long time since Manchester United’s £75m striker last found the net for his club, and he is among those dropped to the bench tonight.

Since Lukaku’s last goal for United in their win over Watford on 15 September, he has played 923 minutes in 11 games in all competitions, and had 18 shots, with four of them on target. In eight of those games, he has not hit the target at all.

His shooting accuracy during that run is 22%, the worst of his career, but he is having far fewer chances than usual too, and is averaging a shot only every 51.3 minutes. Last season at United it was every 30.8 minutes, and at the time that was the worst minutes per shot ratio of his career.

Compare that to Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who has scored six goals in the same period, and has had 42 shots in 720 minutes – one every 17.1 minutes. Strikers need chances - especially when they are out of form.

Mnchester United are winless in their last three Champions League home games. In all European competitions, they've never gone four without a win at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho's side have also failed to score in two consecutive home games in Europe and their barren run in front of goal stands at 186 minutes.

Remember I was telling you about Roman Prochazka missing a late first half penalty for Viktoria Plzen.... well he's only made amends with a stunning finish.

Fourteen of Plzen's 23 league goals this season have been scored in the last 30 minutes of games - so it could be about to get better for the visitors.

Who knows the promised land of the Europa League, may yet await.....

City's chance of making the last 16 is now 99.8% according to the Euro Club Index.

Manchester City's David Silva has scored in each of his last three Champions League games. The only City player to score in four consecutive games in the competition is Raheem Sterling.

This is what Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said in his news conference on Monday.

"I want to put out a team where I think they can cope well with that happiness of playing a decisive game."

In other words, a team that has the professionalism to forget they have the safety net of a trip to Valencia in a fortnight.

That team, it seems, does not include Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku. Combined cost = £164m.

Manchester City are two points clear at the top of the Premier League and have yet to lose in the top-flight, but boss Pep Guardiola is aware that many will judge him on his achievements in Europe's biggest club competition.

"For the people who don't love us too much, who use money as an argument, then we have failed if we don't win the Champions League," Guardiola said.

"For the others, especially our fans who say they enjoy watching our games and enjoy what we are doing, I'm pretty sure they won't have regrets about what these guys have been doing every three days for the last 15 months.

"That is the best compliment, the best success the team can have. But, of course, we want to qualify, continue our level in the Premier League and arrive in the best possible condition with everybody fit to challenge again to go quite far."

River Plate were supposed to take on old rivals Boca Juniors on Saturday in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores final - the South American version of the Champions League.

But we it all kicked off for the wrong reasons.

Anyway, Carlos Tevez is one of nine players to win both major tournaments, with Boca in 2003 and Manchester United in 2008 - and could become the first to win the Copa Libertadores either side of the Champions League.

In the night's other early kick-off over in Group G, CSKA Moscow, lead in their must-win game courtesy of on-loan Everton midfielder Nikola Vlasic's early penalty.

The visitors have had their moments though. They had five pops at the CSKA goal and have seen Roman Prochazka's 44th minute penalty saved by home keeper Igor Akinfeev.

As things stand the Russians are two points behind Real Madrid and Roma. And they face a trip to Spain in their final fixture next month.

The torrential rain has stopped but it is still a dank night in Manchester - definitely not the kind of evening you want to be walking the streets if you can avoid it.

So, it’s probably for the best that Jose Mourinho did not have to walk here, although it might have given him time to ponder what is wrong with United’s form at Old Trafford this season.

His side have won only three of their nine home games this season, and have failed to score in four of them, including both their previous games - mustering only 10 goals in total.

What exactly has happened to Fortress Old Trafford? Well, Mourinho said this week it is not down to his players feeling the pressure - but could not really give an explanation. Whatever the reason, they need to show an improvement tonight.

Jose Mourinho has made six changes to the side that drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku are dropped to the bench as Fred plays in midfield and Marcus Rashford leads the line.

Luke Shaw is named at left-back while Phil Jones' makes his first start since the League Cup defeat to Derby County.

Antonio Valencia is handed the armband for his first start since United's draw against Valencia. There is also room for Marouane Fellaini.

No major tweaks to the Manchester City side by manager Pep Guardiola, just a bit of cosmetic surgery as he makes three like-for-like changes from Saturday's win at West Ham.

Centre-back John Stones, left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko and midfielder Riyad Mahrez all start in Lyon.

Nicolas Otamendi and Fabian Delph drop to the bench, while Ilkay Gundogan misses out through injury.

Lyon skipper Nabil Fekir was an injury doubt, but is fit enough to start for the hosts. So too do former Manchester United pair Memphis Depay and Rafael, plus former City kid Jason Denayer.
