Both Liverpool and Tottenham will have to play against a group winner - as they finished as runners-up.

Teams from the same country are kept apart - as are teams from the same groups.

There are five confirmed group winners:

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Porto, PSG, Real Madrid.

With three more slots to be confirmed on Wednesday.

They will be:

Manchester City or Lyon

Bayern Munich or Ajax

Juventus or Manchester United

The knockout stage draw is on 17 December. I'd like to think most people will wait until then before booking flights but the dates for your diary are:

First legs: 12, 13, 19 and 20 February

Second legs: 5, 6, 12 and 13 March.

Actually there is only one spot that still to be decided in the knockout stage tomorrow.

It's in Manchester City's group, where Shakhtar Donetsk will go through instead of Lyon if they beat the French side at home.

So the Champions League last 16 looks like this:

Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Tottenham, Paris St-Germain, Liverpool, Porto, Schalke, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Manchester City, Lyon or Shakhtar Donetsk, Real Madrid, Roma, Juventus and Manchester United.

So that's all four English teams through to the knockout stages of the Champions League:

Tottenham and Liverpool both doing it the masochistic way. Manchester City and Manchester United will presumably enjoy a quieter Wednesday night than this, having already qualified.

City play at home to Hoffenheim and a draw will be enough to win their group.

United play at Valencia. They can top their group with victory, but only if Juventus lose at Young Boys.

Liverpool

Today, we had an opportunity to show more than we did in Italy and the boys played an outstanding game. The way we pressed them meant they had to change their game and they had no real key for us."

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BT Sport:

"The players were fantastic. A massive effort. I am so happy for the fans. A massive massive achievement for the club.

"I am so happy. We suffered because when we finished the game we did not know the result at Inter. It was two very difficult minutes but in the end of course we were so happy. It's so important for the club.

"I always believed it was possible to win the game. We produced a lot of chances. But after we missed so many we thought maybe it was not our night. We fully deserved to go through with Barcelona. We were the best teams in a difficult group."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane, speaking to BT Sport:

"We had quite a few chances, it just wasn't going in but we carried on and got the goal back. We still carried on trying to score more, we weren't sure what the other score was.

"We're just buzzing that we're through. A draw away to Barcelona's not a bad result."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris, speaking to BT Sport:

"We had the help of PSV it's true, it was difficult after the early goal but we stuck with our principles and played a very good performance.

"We did not win but we went through. That's the most important thing. The spirit was fantastic. We deserve it.

"The fans made such a noise that I knew we had gone through."

Of course, Tottenham fans will want to thank Philippe Coutinho for his efforts this evening too.

He hit the post twice - once in each half - while also somehow appearing to freeze in the box, with the whole goal to aim at, allowing Kyle Walker-Peters to make a vital block.

Borussia Dortmund beat Monaco 2-0, which means they win Group A ahead of Atletico Madrid, who only drew 0-0 in Club Brugge.

It's the Belgians who take up the Europa League spot.

Liverpool

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson: "We knew we had to get a fast start and that's what we did.

"At 0-0 they had nothing to lose and they threw up their centre-back. It was an unbelievable save from Alisson.

"But to get 1-0 up we were confident we would keep a clean sheet and thankfully that's what we did."

Liverpool

Liverpool midfielder James Milner, speaking to BT Sport: "It was always going to be a tough game - they're a good team.

"I thought it was a really good performance, we knew we had to defend well and we defended really well from front to back.

"Mo's goal too... he's a matchwinner, a world -class player and he's done it for us again."
