Dele Alli appears to ghost into positions on the pitch and he seems to have got that leggy performance from the World Cup out of his system now.

Tottenham have not got a better chance of beating Barcelona than tonight, with the little genius on the bench.

Lambo: I’m sorry but if spurs can’t beat this Barca C team, they don’t deserve to go to the knockout stages. And I’m a spurs fan!

Mr. E: Don’t get why everyone is making such a big deal about Messi being “5th best in the world” spurs ain’t even the 10th best is London.

JG: Klopp's faith in individual players will be his doom. Whether it was Moreno, or Karius or now, Henderson. Without the creative spark of someone like Keita or Shaqiri, Napoli is a tough ask. Hope the Reds prove me wrong.

Aleksander Pagels: The last time Liverpool needed a win in the last group game to qualify for the round of 16, they went on to win the whole thing. Just sayin'...

    Group AImage source, BBC Sport

There are two matches going in Group A from as well tonight from 20:00 GMT:

    Club Brugge v Atletico Madrid

    Monaco v Borussia Dortmund

Atletico and Dortmund are through to the last 16. If they finish level on points Dortmund have the better head-to-head record. They beat Atletico 4-0 at home, before losing 2-0 away.

Club Brugge have qualified for the Europa League knockout stage.

  8. Elsewhere around Europepublished at 19:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

FC Porto had already won Group D and are currently winning 3-1 at Galatasaray.

Schalke had already sewn up second place and are drawing 0-0 at home to Lokomotiv Moscow.

The Europa League spot - third place - is still up for grabs. Galatasaray in that slot at the minute, with half an hour to play.

  9. 'Klopp will be hoping his front three can show their magic'published at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Liverpool v Napoli (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on BBC Radio 5 live

Joel Matip has done OK so there was no reason to leave him out. Jurgen Klopp has got Daniel Sturridge, Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri on the bench, so if it isn't working out, he can change it.

But he wants to win this game and win it well. They are a little bit weary of Napoli's threat on the counter attack, but they will be hoping their front three can show their magic.

Francis Edwards: Do Liverpool really need three defensive minded midfielders? Henderson is basically a CB who can’t pass more than 10 yards. Surely Keita and Fabinho are better options in a must win game. This is not their best side.

Chris Baldwin: No Messi, Alba, Busquets, Pique or Ter Stegen in Barca starting line up. Surely Spurs won’t get a better chance than this?

Barcelona thrashed their city rivals Espanyol 4-0 on Saturday. Lionel Messi was superb.

However. He is not starting tonight and in any case, things aren't quite as rosy as they seem, perhaps...

In his latest BBC Sport column, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague talks through the issues bubbling under the surface at Barca.

There's Ousmane Dembele's attitude, concerns over Ernesto Valverde's balance of substance and style, and there's even a few worries about Philippe Coutinho.

  13. Liverpool team newspublished at 19:04 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Liverpool v Napoli (20:00 GMT)

The band is back together. Sadio Mane returns to the Liverpool starting XI after only being fit enough for the bench at Bournemouth on Saturday, meaning he is back on the biggest stage of all alongside Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah.

Captain Jordan Henderson and full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold also step up off the bench, with Xherdan Shaqiri, Fabinho and Naby Keita making way.

Centre-back Dejan Lovren is back on the bench after missing three matches with concussion.

For Napoli? All the big names are back. Carlo Ancelotti rested a few for the easy weekend win at Frosinone, making eight changes to his starting XI for tonight's match at Anfield.

Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde makes wholesale changes to the XI that started in the 4-0 win at Espanyol.

Key forward Lionel Messi drops to a strong bench that features Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Arturo Vidal.

Former Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho and ex-Arsenal defender Thomas Vermalen are two of seven players brought into the starting line-up.

Tottenham bring striker Harry Kane and midfielder Christian Eriksen back into the starting line-up having rested them for the 2-0 victory over Leicester at the weekend.

  19. No Messi for Barcapublished at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Barcelona v Tottenham (20:00 GMT)

So then. There is no Lionel Messi in the starting XI. He is on the bench for Barcelona. Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho do start. So does Thomas Vermaelen.

Barca have already won this group.

The thinking seems to be: better to rest them for Levante away on Sunday.

Levante are sixth in La Liga - they beat Barca at home last season and won at Real Madrid in October.

  20. How can Liverpool go through? (part three)published at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 December 2018

    Liverpool v Napoli (20:00 GMT)

This is the last bit, I promise.

So all of the very interesting permutation information below helps us understand:

If Liverpool beat Napoli, for example, 2-1, and PSG also win their match at Red Star Belgrade, then the Reds will be out.

Not even the mathematicians will be able to save them.
