A first Champions League goal for Phil Foden (who has now scored in the League Cup, FA Cup and Europe) means the Premier League is now 13-2 up on the Bundesliga in aggregate scores over the two last-16 ties so far.

Tottenham are already through to the quarter-finals after beating Borussia Dortmund, City are obviously about to join them - so over to Liverpool... can they get past Bayern Munich on Thursday to complete the hat-trick?

Everything about that goal was brilliant. Firstly, Leroy Sane's tricks and then the timing of the run and calmness shown from Foden was great.

It is utterly naive defending and if the manager is telling his team to play that way then that is terrible. I've not seen a team play this naively at the Etihad. This is six going on 10 or 12.

Foden is a delight to watch and it is great to see young British players doing well.

  5. CLOSE!published at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2019

Man City 6-0 Schalke (agg: 9-2)

Phil Foden close to getting a second and City's seventh, but this time his shot - with his right boot - is pushed away by the diving Ralf Fahrmann.

    Phil Foden

    Schalke hit for six.

It comes down the City left again, made by the skill and trickery of Leroy Sane.

The German skips past a defender and plays it through into the box for sub Phil Foden.

Can the Englishman finish? He dances round the goalkeeper and rolls the ball into the net.

Lovely and that is his first Champions League goal.

Juve are looking the more likely to get a third goal in this contest.

Miralem Pjanic floats a ball to the back post for Mario Mandzukic, but the Croatian heads wide under pressure from Diego Godin.

Bit of argy bargy in the Juve final third as Atleti striker Alvaro Morata pushes Giorgio Chiellini over.

The Italian gets back onto his feet and is pushed over for a second time by Morata.

    Feisty.

How easy it is for Man City to get through this back line? The Schalke back line is not quick enough or good enough. The biggest shock from that goal is that they didn't check VAR.

    Bernardo Silva

    And it's five.

Three left-footers combine for this one, which makes the goal look even more aesthetic.

Oleksandr Zinchenko plays the ball through to Leroy Sane and the Schalke backline is all over the place.

It seems like the German is going to smash the ball across the six yard box, instead cutting the ball back to Bernardo Silva to stroke in via the goalkeeper's hand and the post.

At this rate the City fans are going to stop celebrating when their team put the ball in the net, because they won't be sure whether it will be given or not.

The decision that Raheem Sterling was onside for City's fourth goal looked straightforward on the screens inside the press box at the Etihad, but the fans around me were kept waiting for a long, long time before they were put out of their misery, and most of them had already sat back down.
