I would argue this is what you need to do, you play on until the move finishes and then you make a decision [on whether it is offside].
I know it is annoying, but this is VAR working correctly. The officials have got all the VAR decisions correct.
Raheem Sterling
Decision overturned, City have a fourth of the evening.
Leroy Sane plays a lovely pass through to Raheem Sterling inside the area and the Englishman carresses a beautiful first-time finish into the top corner.
City's joy is shortlived when they see the assistant's flag go up, but are helped by the VAR who sees Sterling level and the goal is awarded.
Man City 3-0 Schalke (agg: 6-2)
Raheem Sterling with a superb finish into the top corner.
The assistant has his flag up but guess what...
VAR is checking it.
Zzzzzz!
Juventus 2-0 Atletico Madrid (agg: 2-2)
Decent chance for Juve to grab a third, but Federico Bernardeschi gets his header all wrong.
Atleti hanging on a bit now.
Juventus 2-0 Atletico Madrid (agg: 2-2)

Juventus 2-0 Atletico Madrid (agg: 2-2)
Paul: Deserved. Atletico might have been better served trying to get a goal from the start that would mean Juve need score four times tonight rather than sit back and defend all of it.
Man City 3-0 Schalke (agg: 6-2)
Leroy Sane this time does get his second of the game, latching on to a through ball, going round goalkeeper Ralf Fahrmann and slotting in.
But wait.
The flag is up.
VAR looks and confirms the decision.

There is no point running Sergio Aguero into the ground. He is so important for Manchester City.
Man City 3-0 Schalke (agg: 6-2)
City slicker Leroy Sane into the box for his second....
...no. Dragged wide of the far post.
Should have cut it back for Sergio Aguero.
Cristiano Ronaldo
We are all square.
It's Cristiano Ronaldo again for Juve!
The Portuguese rises to meet a cross into the box from compatriot Joao Cancelo and thumps a header towards the top corner.
It initially looks like a stunning save by Jan Oblak, clawing the ball out, but the referee checks his watch which flashes up to say GOAL!
Looking at the goalline technology replay, it was clearly over, but not by very much.
Over in Turin...

Schalke do not look like an organised unit. Is there one player of theirs that would get a sniff of a game for Manchester City's reserves?
Man City 3-0 Schalke (agg: 6-2)
In making that challenge, Danilo got a stray foot in the face.
It's a cut eye, he doesn't look to clever here with the blood flowing.
Currently looking like has caught a right hook from Ricky Hatton.
Man City 3-0 Schalke (agg: 6-2)
City defender Danilo into the book for a rash sliding challenge from behind on Breel Embolo.

How about the football equivalent of 'umpire's call' for VAR? In terms of offside - if there's no daylight go with the original call. Would save all this messing around trying to work out if someone's big toe was an inch offside. Fed up with these long waits

This is a brilliant idea!
Man City 3-0 Schalke (agg: 6-2)
City are not happy with three, they want more.
Leroy Sane winds his foot up on the edge of the box but his thumping shot is blocked.
