I haven’t seen Barcelona this unsettled in ages. Liverpool did everything you need to do against them. We should be talking about something else.

Messi looked frustrated, not liking being rushed and being surrounded by Liverpool.

Barcelona had to defend deep and play long balls.

But, then Messi changed everything.

The Liverpool players didn't hang around for long on the pitch. They applauded the away fans then trudged down the tunnel.

They can hardly believe what's just happened. Jurgen Klopp went to congratulate Lionel Messi with a standard bear hug.

It was a very strange game.

Liverpool dominated the second half but lost 3-0. I was worried for them when they went gung-ho and Barcelona could have totally taken them apart.

It wasn’t what I expected but once again Lionel Messi was the X-factor.

Arguably, Liverpool are the better team but they don’t have him.

Where do you even begin?

Liverpool were the better team for around 70 minutes of that match. But individual brilliance from Lionel Messi and flashes from Luis Suarez ultimately made the difference.

Liverpool missed chances - they could have equalised through Sadio Mane in the first half to make it 1-1.

Messi's free-kick then knocked the stuffing out of them. It could have been 5-0 or 6-0 in the end. Absolutely sensational. Football, eh?

What a spectacle.

Barcelona could have won by five or six at the end but it could have been 3-3. Liverpool missed chances but were so vulnerable on the counter.

It will take an unbelievable second leg performance to make it to the final.

Barcelona break away on the counter after a poor Liverpool corner. Lionel Messi cuts it back into the middle - it's three-on-one again - but Ousmane Dembele scuffs his shot and Alisson can comfortably bring it in.

We're going to have to see one of Liverpool's greatest nights ever in the second leg.

Henri Colens: Lots on here being hard on Liverpool. It’s clearly not a great result but the performance was really good. It could have gone the other way, but Liverpool’s finishing has let them down. Nothing to lose at Anfield.

Femi John Atoyebi: Barcelona played like champions. Perfect game. Weathered the Liverpool storm and then put away their chances unlike the visitors.

Liverpool are wide open now. They have just lost the plot. Ivan Rakitic moves through the centre and lays it off to Ousmane Dembele on the right.

The substitute shoots way over the bar and Rakitic gestures angrily that he wanted it returning in the middle.

Luis Suarez goes off to a standing ovation at the Nou Camp. Ousmane Dembele comes on.

Sergi Roberto is also replaced by young Carles Alena.

He slips it left to Luis Suarez but Andy Robertson sprints back into position and makes a huge block.

Varun Gupta: In the end, the difference between Liverpool and Barcelona is Messi. Same was the case with Ronaldo at Madrid - we can see how that team has sort of disintegrated after Ronaldo left. It’s sad the whole of Premier League has no such player.

Sadio Mane stays onside when the ball is played over the top but Arturo Vidal comes sliding in and gets a tackle in.

Mane isn't happy with the tackle and bites back, flapping a hand to his face. Needs to be careful there.
