Mark: Özil just oozing class tonight. He might not always work the hardest, but he’s a cut above the rest of the squad talent wise. It’s madness not to play him. The Iwözil combination is great.

James Reader: To paraphrase Mr Patridge: Xhaka has a foot like a traction engine!

Pamela Smith: Wake me up after the game. I can't go through the stress of watching a club with a huge history booting balls off the line against a side in Belarus. It breaks my heart.

Ian Shepherd: You could easily make a case for moving on at least 10 of the 1st team squad in the summer...this feels like a poor Wenger team atm. But with a decent holding midfielder.

Peter: Mkhitaryan was a bit rubbish when we signed him - which is probably why Man Utd let us have him + why he agreed to the move. Over the years, we've sold them Stapleton, RvP + Sanchez, and got Silvestre, Welbeck + Mkhitaryan in return.

Now Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heads on to the roof of the net and Granit Xhaka slices a shot way wide. Arsenal looking for the go-ahead goal before half time...

Arsenal 1-0 Bate Borisov (1-1 Agg)

Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang has some space to run at the Bate defence but he takes a heavy touch and the chance is gone. Moments later he does get a shot away on the spin but it's a tame one. Again, it came from a good cross from Stephan Lichtsteiner.

Former Arsenal man Francis Coquelin has just come on for Valencia as well. Celtic have started brightly but there's now more of a sea of Valencian possession lapping against their shore.

That Mkhitaryan/Sanchez swap deal has not exactly been a classic move for anyone has it?

Paul: For all the talk about Ozil I'd be worried about Mikhtaryan too. He's been rubbish for ages.

  13. GREAT SAVE!published at 20 mins

Arsenal 1-0 Bate Borisov (1-1 Agg)

That was shifting! Granit Xhaka with an iron-footed shot from a good 25 yards, arrow straight and Denis Scherbitski fists it over the bar. Really clean connection.

Good little spell of pressure for Celtic ends with Kristoffer Ajer slicing a shot wide under pressure.

I had a random Dortmund shirt when I was a kid which is very like the Celtic one tonight. Remember you can follow that game closely with BBC Scotland here.

  18. Off the line!published at 9 mins

Arsenal 1-0 Bate Borisov (1-1 Agg)

And Bate really should have an away goal! Again they get in behind the Arsenal defence far too easily, it's helped across goal and Stanislav Dragun knocks a shot past Petr Cech, Stephan Lichtsteiner is back on the line to clear!

Dear oh dear that was slack.

  20. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

Arsenal 1-0 Bate Borisov (1-1 Agg)

Chance for the visitors! Maksim Skavysh gets in behind a hesitant Nacho Monreal and while he's wide on the right of the area he's in on goal. He has to hit the shot across Petr Cech though, instead he goes for the near post and it's into the side-netting.
