  2. Who qualifies for Europe?published at 19:14 British Summer Time 9 May 2019

    Premier LeagueImage source, .

The winners of the Europa League qualify automatically for next season's Champions League.

In terms of that (and putting aside the prestige of winning an actual trophy), Arsenal need to win this tournament much more than Chelsea.

The Blues have already finished in the top four so have their Champions League place booked.

But the Gunners - who are unlikely to finish in the top four - need to win this tournament to qualify.

If Chelsea did win, then only four English teams get into next season's Champions League.

If Arsenal win (and finish fifth or sixth) then five English teams will be in the Champions League.

  3. 'You can't trust Arsenal'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 9 May 2019

    Lee Dixon
Former Arsenal defender on BBC Radio 5 live

Dixon was speaking after Thursday's first-leg win but before Arsenal's draw against Brighton

It was great to watch a positive performance get Arsenal a good result on Thursday night, but it does not mean they have turned a corner under Unai Emery.

I played for the club for 15 years, I am Arsenal through and through and I love the club, but I say things how they are because that is my job as a pundit - and I don't trust this Gunners side.

You cannot trust them, because you don't know what is coming next.

With Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in their attack, Arsenal will always carry a threat of getting more goals, but I am still nervous about what will happen next in the tie because we have also seen that they can concede left, right and centre.

It is the whole package when they lose the ball where they sometimes let themselves down, and that could still cause them problems at the Mestalla.

Would I back them to go away and get a result that will see them into the final? I don't know.

I had a bet on Goncalo Guedes to be Portugal's top scorer at the World Cup. Then Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick against Spain.

Funnily enough I stopped betting soon after that.

  5. Can Guedes make Emery pay?published at 19:07 British Summer Time 9 May 2019

Valencia forward Goncalo Guedes is nicknamed Ducati by his team-mates for his effortless yet explosive motorbike-like acceleration, but has often fluctuated between scorching hot and freezing cold.

With six goals and three assists in his past 10 games, the 22-year-old is an all-or-nothing kind of player - equally capable of delivering match-winning heroics or leaving you wondering if he's even on the pitch.

Unfortunately for Valencia, last Thursday's Europa League semi-final first-leg defeat at Arsenal saw one of his too-frequent underwhelming performances; the Portuguese made little impact and was substituted after 70 minutes.

Signed by Arsenal boss Unai Emery for Paris St-Germain two years ago, Guedes was largely overlooked while in France.

So could the forward, who is said to epitomise the "new Valencia", send a message to his former boss and help overturn a 3-1 scoreline against Arsenal on Thursday?

SorenOConnell: Not saying that they’re going to win, but I think Eintracht Frankfurt has a better shot against Chelsea than people are giving them credit for. After all the madness we’ve seen in the Champions League semi-finals more upsets today wouldn’t surprise.

Iamsulaimon: An all-English final in the Europa League with the Champions League confirmed is going to be a dream come for the English football fans. It's all coming home.

This would be the first year that both European finals have involved only English sides.

The only two all-English finals to date have been Tottenham against Wolves in the first ever Uefa Cup, back in 1972, and the 2008 Champions League final between Manchester United and Chelsea.

Pedro scored an away goal as Chelsea recovered from an early setback against Eintracht Frankfurt to set up an exciting Europa League semi-final return leg at Stamford Bridge.

Eintracht took the lead through their top scorer Luka Jovic, who superbly steered in Filip Kostic's ball.

The Blues, who started with Eden Hazard on the bench, equalised when Pedro thrashed home just before half-time.

David Luiz also went close when his dipping free-kick came off the bar.
