Then moments later Nikita Parris - the star of the show against Brazil on Saturday - blasts into Row H from a promising position.

I hope Mary Fowler got permission from her school teachers for a trip to England. The incoming Australia substitute is only 15 years old! Fifteen!!

She must be a heck of a talent. England will be hoping we don't see it tonight...

Lucy Bronze, she's always the first name on the team sheet for me, with a pin point cross right onto the head of Rachel Daly, it's a hard header for her to get on target and it just flies over the bar.

Off come Beth Mead and Lucy Staniforth - two of England's better performers tonight - with Nikita Parris and Rachel Daly given another chance to shine.

Fran Kirby is more fleet-footed than a Strictly contestant. She's always on the move. She peels off to the right side of the box, skipping around the advancing Australian keeper but is beaten by the angle.

England really need to look a the scoreboard, it's still 1-0 they're not safe yet. Australia are still in this and you saw it with that corner there they can still cause problems for the Lionesses.

Australia corner... and here's the danger when you're only a goal to the good...

A dangerous inswinger from the right has to be dealt with efficiently... and it is as Alex Greenwood hoofs clear the danger.

Route one. Alex Greenwood goes direct after giving Fran Kirby the nod, the mini Messi timing her run almost to perfection to meet the 60-yard ping. But the ball skips off the Craven Cottage turf and into Australia keeper Mackenzie Arnold's grateful hands.

P Nev demanded a clinical performance from his side. So far he's not got it.

Australia boss Alen Stajcic decides to freshen things up. On comes Emily Gielnik, with Amy Sayer calling it a night.

Beth Mead has been a real pest for the Aussies tonight. She wriggles away from a couple of defenders on the right side of the box, darting into space before being halted by the referee's whistle.

Apparently it was a foul. Mead and the referee are not seeing eye to eye tonight.

Another moment of magic from Fran Kirby to set up her teammate there. She plays excellently in that number 10 role as she tries to thread a no look pass through to Toni Duggan.

Better!

A pair of chances are created by England as they step on the gas.

Toni Duggan's angled drive is blocked by the Aussie keeper before Alex Greenwood's first time shot from the left, after being unselfishly picked out by Fran Kirby's square pass, sails over.

Phil Neville is not happy with his side's sloppy side, skulking the touchline with the demeanour of a school teacher who has just found out his class have flooded the toilets.

Sloppy from England allowing Australia in, it's a great save from Earps after Ibini's attempted finish.

They need to stop giving the ball away so easily!

But it is Australia who create the first opening of the second half. England's pass-it-out-from-back tactic is undone by some carelessness, allowing Caitlin Foord to spring forward for the Aussies.

Foord slips Princess Ibini-Isei in the left channel, Abbie McManus needed to race across and block the teenager's angled shot.

McManus does enough to take the pace out of the effort and allow Mary Earps to gather.
