I think the Australian defenders still sliding off the pitch with that turn from Kirby, that's what she's all about she makes defenders look silly.

She finds a ball to Duggan who cant quite find the pass to Mead.

A rare bit of Australia pressure. Patient intricate play by the Matildas on the edge of the England box ends in a tame shot from Amy Sayer. And then England counter...

Lucy Staniforth is making things tick for England. Everything is going through the Birmingham player as the Lionesses confidently knock the ball around in midfield.

She starts another move, popping up on the right wing a few passes later, but can't keep the ball in play.

  6. Mead impressing for Lionessespublished at 25 mins

Beth Mead may have set up the goal but will be wondering how she isn’t on the scoresheet yet herself, and so are most of the Craven Cottage crowd.

First she came so close to breaking the deadlock with a brilliant flick goalwards from Lucy Bronze’s right-wing cross, which was well saved by Mackenzie Arnold in the Australia goal.

Then the Arsenal striker cut in from the right and narrowly sent a shot wide of the far post, and she’ll be disappointed she didn’t hit the target with two other chances as well. She’s been very bright after being brought into the England side by boss Phil Neville.

Phil Neville wants his side to more clinical tonight - they could have a hatful if they want it. The Lionesses are completely overrunning their visitors.

Fran Kirby will be getting the headlines there but it all comes from Beth Mead, she's been fantastic so far and she showed great composure to find Fran Kirby in a better position to do what she does best, finish.

GOAL - England 1-0 Australiapublished at 21 mins

    Fran Kirby

Guess who? Yep, England's Ballon d'Or nominee... the mini Messi... Fran Kirby.

She picks up scraps with more ease than your brand new vacuum cleaner.

Australia keeper Mackenzie Arnold has a moment to forget, making a hash of a clearance and giving the ball to Beth Mead.

Mead doesn't panic, squaring to Kirby who smartly turns and guides in a low left-foot shot.

    Easy peasy.

I'm shaking my head right here, there's no way that's a yellow card, she gets the ball first and the player after.

    Never a booking for me.

Ouch! Steady on Beth... Mead's enthusiasm boils over a little as she slides in dangerously on Chloe Logarzo.

Mead's seeing yellow, Logarzo's seeing stars.

I'm not sure what the possession stats are, but England must be hogging the ball more than Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

I like what Beth Mead did there, she used Fran Kirby as a marker and just tries to bend the ball round her to find the far corner and just misses.

She's started these 15 minutes very brightly and looks the most likely for England so far.

Beth Mead is seeing her chance tonight and is determined to take it. Playing out on the right, the Arsenal forward picks up a loose ball and charges goalwards. She unleashes a curling left-foot effort which whistles just past the far post. Best effort of the night so far.

England need to be careful of that, it's all well and good throwing players forward but they do need to watch out for the counter-attack.

Australia break forward for a rare attack... no dice. Play swings back up the other end... Lucy Staniforth thumps a low shot into the hands of the Australian keeper.

    Entertaining start to the game.

That ball in from the right looks to be an attacking threat for England. One cross is overhit before Lucy Bronze again gets into a promising position, pulling the ball back to Fran Kirby.

Is Kirby clattered? She hits the deck as looks to swipe the ball goalwards... looks soft. Not for me.

It's a great bit of play from Beth Mead to try and get a flick on that, just like Aaron Ramsey here at the weekend but this time the keeper was equal to it.
